Finally got my garden and yard work done....now inside the rest of the day for me.

What kind of work are you guys doing in this heat?

 

I work in a warehouse for UPS and yesterday it was 15 degrees hotter inside than outside.

The heat's been tough for the workforce on my construction sites. We switched the regular shift work to 6am-2:30pm instead of 7am-3:30pm for a little relief. We also require all of our foremen to force all workers to consume 1 liter of water per hour, and we're requiring workers to stop in for a 10 minute break in the air conditioned job trailers every two hours.

 

Got home last night and my A/C couldn't keep up with the temperature. I had it set on 68° and my house was at 78°. This is the time of year to head over to Erlanger and put in some part time hours at Dusing Bros. ice house.

I feel you. Mine is around 110 years old and struggles to keep up in this heat.

:lol: I get my comeuppance during the winter months though. I can't deal with the cold.

I'm glad I get to work in air conditioning because wearing a suit in this is unpleasant. I walked out of the federal courthouse in Louisville yesterday with my suit coat still on... instantly just started dripping with sweat. No thanks. Bring me January. I much prefer walking around with a hat, scarf and coat to this. You can always put on more layers, but start losing too many and eventually you'll just get arrested.

I just got off the phone with a friend and we were talking about the heat. I had just finished cutting my mother-in-law's grass; he had just finished staining his deck. We were both joking about not minding the heat.

 

I can deal with 100 degree temps outside better than stuffy conditions inside. Not sure how I'd deal with a warehouse job in these conditions; probably not well.

I can pretty surely say that the worst day of work that I ever had was in late July right after I got my first job in construction. It was in the upper 90's and the humidity was in the low 80's. I was working for a homebuilder, and I spent about 3 hours by myself up in the attic crawlspace of a house installing a whole-house fan that had been overlooked and left out of original construction. Hindsight being 20/20, that was probably one of the more dangerous things that I've ever done. I'd bet it was an easy 130° up there. An like FC said, it took my breath away it was so hot.

 

I'll pretty frequently think back to that afternoon when I'm having bad days, and suddenly things just aren't so bad any more.

I can deal with them, but it sure doesn't mean I like them.

I spent 4 or 5 summers working for my Dad's construction company. I can remember several days like that. Makes me glad to work in an office with A/C.

Oh, for crying out loud , it's summer people. It gets hot.

Times like this make having a car whose AC doesn't work suck, but by the same token I'm thankful that my outside workload is minimal during June and July. Gonna be bad next month, though, when things pick back up.
