Was anyone present at the scrimmage against Green? Curious how they looked!

Mercer got beat 44-0 and from what I understand, they didn't look that good at all. Obviously. Lots of work to do. A whole lot. Starting QB and one of the receivers are sophomores as well as a lineman. Lots of kids learning new positions and plays as well. I hope the parents leave Rains alone long enough to develop the program. The talent in the youth is there. The people need patience. I think in 2 years Mercer will be formidable but this year will be a learning/transition year for the Titans. Hopefully after this scrimmage the parents can understand that.

I'm pretty sure all parents know that. If you go and watch them practice you can see that as well. As long as they improve I'm confident that the parents won't say anything. The last couple of years there hasn't been any improvment what so ever so the parents did say something. We all know the talent is there and have been waiting for a coach like Rains to get here. I see nothing but a very bright future for the Titans.

Coach Rains will have Mercer in title contention in a few years. He has some very talented players with a lot of speed.

Yes, and you and I both know how the senior parents feel they should be a top team this year. Fact of the matter is that as much as I love a lot of those seniors they simply didn't do what they needed to be doing as freshman, sophomores and juniors to excel as seniors. Mercer will be a competitive and district contending team in 2 years of they leave Rains alone.

The staff was on the sideline and in the booth and they looked in mid-season form. They game planned Mercer, ran every formation in thier playbook from empty to unbalanced. They ran trick plays such as reverses and throwback screens passes. Meanwhile the Mercer staff was in the huddle with thier players and on the field during plays. They worked on thier base defense and had some things they wanted to look at offensively. They could have run the ball every play if they wanted to make the scrimmage closer because green had 5 in the box but they didn't. Green has a system in place and Griff has been there a long time. Rains can't catch his team up to mid-season form in the first scrimmage. It will be O.K.

That's Green County, and believe it or not, they don't do a lot. They run 10-12 plays and do it out of just as many formations. Griff is a great coach and has done a great job rebuilding that program (not saying you thought otherwise). Don't be shocked to see Green play in BG this year. They'll have 3 kids in the backfield (counting their QB as a runner) who will be as good as any backfield in the state of Kentucky, I don't care what class they are.
