I think it's a bad move from a basketball perspective for both schools. KWC and G'town have some of the best tradition in the state and it will all but be gone (as will the coaches and players) if they proceed with these moves. JMO.

I'm told the Wesleyan thing isn't a done deal.

Georgetown is a lot like NKU in the aspect that they pull in D1 transfers that need scholarship money. Georegetown moving to D3 denies that ability, as well as the ability to coax the good players players to come to the school by giving them partial scholarship and developing them. I am willing to bet that if G'Town goes D3, they will lose Cronin(HC), Housekeeper(DC), and possibly others. Oh, and not to mention the 1/2 of the team that will leave. After all this, Georgetown will be a D3 school with only one major city to pull from.

And they will compete w/ Centre to pull from there.

And they will compete w/ Centre to pull from there.

Additionally, they must compete w/ the Mount, TMC, and Hanover for Cincy kids, as well as Centre there also. It makes absolutely no sense.

Take out G'town and insert NKU and you have the same post.

One of the things that I don't think people are looking at with NKU going DI is the lack of scholarships for the local athletes. Just looking at one sport, the golf teams are filled with some of the top local golfers and they are competitive at the DII level.

Look at EKU's rosters. Littered with foreign players. Look at a lot of DI rosters and tons of foreign players. They will not be able to be competitive at the DI level and stay with local players.

Coach Winstel has been competitive with local players. She will not be in DI.

You don't have to be DI in every sport.

Basically, you do ... the only exception seems to be that some schools are grandfathered in for such sports as hockey and lacrosse.

If a school intends to play Division I football/basketball, they have to move their entire athletic program to that level.

Don't forget Transy, too.

I'm not too sure about that. I think there are programs that are DI in basketball and lesser in football.

Who?

Every school that plays Division I basketball is classified as Division I-A (FBS) or I-AA (FCS) in football, even if they don't offer athletic scholarships for football.

Guess you're right. I was thinking 1-AA FCS.

You are right. I was thinking that Dayton was DII in football for some reason.

Dayton used to be national contenders in Division III on a yearly basis, but had to move out of there when the rule was passed.

The saddest part is how President Crouch is trying to hide behind the fact that Georgetown has to be more academically inclined. He is about to make two very successfull programs, Basketball and Football, go down the drain. I can't wrap my head around it.

Hanover moved to be more academically inclined after I graduated in '02. We went from being the cream of the crop in the Heartland to being God awful. As soon as you raise tuition and enrollment standards to get to Tier I, you lose athletes. Hanover is just now starting to recover. I felt so bad for Coach Perry b/c there was nothing he could do to get players in. He was far too good of a coach and a man to deserve that.
