July 1, 201115 yr The Division III Membership Committee is recommending active status for four schools that successfully completed all four years of the Division III provisional/reclassifying membership process. The committee also approved the following seven schools to conduct an exploratory year in 2011-12 before possibly seeking provisional/reclassifying membership the following year: Georgetown College (Georgetown, Ky.) State University of New York at Canton (Canton, N.Y.) Houghton College (Houghton, N.Y.) Kentucky Wesleyan College (Owensboro, Ky.) Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, N.Y.) Southern Virginia University (Buena Vista, Va.) Valley Forge Christian College (Phoenixville, Pa.) http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2011/june/diii+membership+committee+recommends+four+new+active+members
July 2, 201115 yr Wow ... the Kentucky Wesleyan thing is a big surprise. I had heard in April when I was in Owensboro from a good source but still didn't believe it.
July 2, 201115 yr Georgetown is making a HUGE mistake. Huge Mistake, go DII if you want to move to NCAA.
July 5, 201115 yr I've known for a while now that KWC was looking into going D3 but didn't think it was my place to say anything about a rival school.
July 6, 201115 yr Add in NKU's desire to go DI and seems like there is a whole bunch of bad athletic decisions being made in KY colleges.
July 6, 201115 yr Add in NKU's desire to go DI and seems like there is a whole bunch of bad athletic decisions being made in KY colleges. I know how you feel, but jeez this move by G'town is so much worse IMO, it will kill the school for years to come. It will be impossible to count all the transfers and everything else thaqt will come with it.

It will be impossible to count all the transfers and everything else thaqt will come with it. Take out G'town and insert NKU and you have the same post. One of the things that I don't think people are looking at with NKU going DI is the lack of scholarships for the local athletes. Just looking at one sport, the golf teams are filled with some of the top local golfers and they are competitive at the DII level. Look at EKU's rosters. Littered with foreign players. Look at a lot of DI rosters and tons of foreign players. They will not be able to be competitive at the DI level and stay with local players. Coach Winstel has been competitive with local players. She will not be in DI.

NKU seems to be jumping the gun, while Georgetown is just making the wrong choice all together, IMO.
July 10, 201115 yr Just curious, but why do you think it is a bad move? Do you feel it is a good move?
July 11, 201115 yr Do you feel it is a good move? I do not know enough about it to form an opinion. That is why I was asking what are the real negatives to the move.
