Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Covington Catholic? Remember, please be constructive.

While I haven't heard officially I think SR Tom Arnzen has decided to skip basketball this year and just play baseball. He had some injuries last season and I think he wants to come into baseball fully healed and healthy. Probably a good call for him.

With no benefit of inside info and nothing but conjecture and a somewhat educated guess I'd say we'll see 3 or 4 sophs getting varsity minutes this year with one starting and one being a key backup. I heard good things about the Radcliff kid and his athletic ability. I'd expect Ruthsatz to start at the 1. Schult will be backup 4 or 5. I'd look for Sam Dressman to get time at the 4.

 

Fredrick and Ward will play a lot and rep the JR class along with with Tobler(sp?) at the 4 or 5. The kid I don't know a lot about is Kellen Jenkins. Cam Murphy will also have to push for minutes.

 

SR class will be led by Haden starting and Cleves and Massie getting reserve minutes at the guard spot.

 

I'd expect them to push the ball and be aggressive defensively. Heck, look for a 3 and 4 guard offense at times.

 

Looking forward to seeing them play and see how they evolve.

I thought T. Arnzen was getting some minutes at the end of last year. Is he still in the picture?

I did mention quite a few. My GUESS is that 7 to 8 will dominate the minutes. You can only play so many guards and this team is filled with kids that plays the 1, 2, and 3.

Loads of talent this year. Always nice for a coach to have lots of options.

1. I don't think so. There are only 3 seniors so someone has to get the PT.

2. Age-old debate of develop for next year or play for this year. Ryan just had too many senior bigs in front of him to get a lot of time.

The Jr class is pretty talented at the guard position, Frederick looks like he has gotten taller and the kid who may surprise most will be Kellen Jenkins. He had a nice summer from what I understand.

 

If they start the coach's son at the PG spot he must be pretty good because Murphy is no slouch and Massie was pretty good last year coming off the bench.

 

I would expect them to get up and down and try to rely on their shooting ability and quickness.

 

I dont know much about the bigs on this team except from what I read on here. Apparently the Dressman kid is pretty good and Schult is a beast. Tobler is a tall kid who can definitely see minutes on the block.

I'm most interested in checking out the Jenkins kid. I didn't get to see a lot of JV games last year so I truly have no idea about the kid's game.

 

As to the PG position, from what I've seen Ruthsatz is the best choice for PG.

When was the last time CCH started a soph at PG? Just curious.
