Pretty hard to be careless in having sex, I think most would agree the bilogical reason behind it is to birth a child. If you're choosing to have sex you're aware of the possible consequences. Not sure that most people of sound mind get behind the wheel intending to cause a car wreck and then call it an accident.....

I agree with you completely on the bolded. It really bothers me when people say they "accidentally" got pregnant. Unless it is a situation involving rape, the decision to have sex is a conscious choice and pregnancy is always a possible consequence of having sex. Following that logic, a pregnancy is never accidental...unplanned, perhaps, but definitely not an accident. Anybody that doesn't understand this very black and white explanation should not be having sex anyway. If you can't handle (or choose not to handle) the potential consequences of sex, then don't have sex. Simple stuff...

Yes, I could have a relationship with her.

I however do disagree with a woman being allowed to have an abortion even if the guy wants the baby. The guy has no say so even if it is his kid and wants to take care of it with his family.

To answer the thread question:

I would have a very difficult time dating a guy who I know was involved in a decision to have an abortion. In fact, I actually did date a guy for a while and learned down the line that his ex-girlfriend aborted his child. He claimed he had no say in the matter. Regardless of his involvement in the decision, it still weighed heavily on my mind.

Actually after further reviewing you're post you are correct, no difference to either situation. I'd pee on both parties, if you openly engage in sex that can lead to coneption with the intent of ultimately aborting a child then that's sick. If you plan on drinking and driving then that's just as sad and I have the same out look on both.

Now that you agree that both are as a result of carelessness i now must ask about forgiveness. I assume you like many base your belief on your Christian faith. The lady in RMs thread forgave the killer of her son and said it was because of her faith.

This entire thread seems to indicate we only practice the easy part of our faith ie condemning sinners. What about forgiveness?

What did I rationalize? Both are morally repugnant actions. Where did I even come close to saying I was OK with someone killing someone when they drove drunk. Please refer to post 19 where I said I would likely want nothing to do with the person in either situation.

You seemed to try to point out that one was worse than the other. If that was not your intent then I misread It.

I could be with someone who had an abortion in the past. However,

Could I continue being with someone that aborted my child, simply due to they weren't "ready" or didn't want a child? No.

I agree with this.

I would have no problem in having a relationship with a woman that had an abortion. I believe in forigiveness, and even if I didn't agree with her decision, could at least have an understanding of her reasoning.

I was actually faced with this situation a while back, and forced to make a decision. I met a great girl (my current gf), at the same time I met another great girl. I had went out with my current gf once or twice and had a night planned with the other girl. We had a great time, and had another date scheduled. I attempted to contact the girl and received no response, which I found out 3 weeks later was due to an unexpected pregnancy. During this time I started seeing my current GF more steadily. After about 3 weeks the other girl out of no where contacted me and let me know what the situation was and that if I were to misplace my GF's # she'd be waiting. This girl was absolutely perfect for me and still is in all honesty. I want to think I made the right decision, but have no idea at this point.

Yes to the first question. I dated a girl for 3 years that had an abortion when she was 14 (I believe it was). She is now married and has 3 childern. Her mom was a single mom with not much money and already had 3 kids. It was bad situation for all involved. They made what they thought was the right decision. I found out after dating her for about a year. It didn't change how I view or felt about her. Maybe because I got to know her and the person she was before I found out.

Also, I don't think abortion is as black and white as some would like to believe.

And just because I agree doesn't mean I condone abortion. But the fact is, it's not just a method of birth control for most, at least in my experience. I haven't met many who've willfully had sex without protection, utilizing the "I'll just get an abortion" mindset as their excuse.

And I love the people who say "she chose to have sex", "she was careless". It takes two.

I voted yes. It's a grueling, life-altering decision. I don't see it as my place to judge.

Ever met some couples who could never have a child, so what did they do adopt one, Woods, I can't blame a 14 year old girl not wanting a child, give it up maybe?

I agree with this 100% which is why the second of the two should have some say in an abortion decision.

As well, it should be acknowledged that the second of the two should also be held responsible for the decision if the DO have a say, which many are afforded.

Yes, while I don't agree with abortion, I could have a relationship with someone who had an abortion.

Like RM said life is not as black and white as many like to think.

Sometimes good people, put in a bad situation, possibly lacking in knowledge or conscequenses, have to make decisions. I believe that most make this decision because they feel it is the best choice for them at the time. I also believe that later in life many feel they made the wrong decision and anguish from it.

I do not believe that abortion should ever be encouraged.
