Who is Tim replacing on the WKU staff?

 

It's expected that David Graves is going to be let go. That's not official, but most everything that has been rumored about the move so far has been true.

I hate the fact that Riley is leaving high school basketball ... he's been a good guy and a good coach at several schools over most of the last 20 years. But if he sees this as another career opportunity, more power to him.

Has Riley coached girls basketball before? I'm unfamiliar with his work before Warren Central.

I don't believe he ever has. To the best of my recollection, he was an assistant a year with Bowling Green (possibly junior high), spent 4 seasons under Bevars at North Hardin, 2 years under Flynn at Covington Holmes, then got into head coaching. Coached at Larue County for a few years, then Caverna, then coming to Warren Central. All of those were definitely boys.

He had talked a lot about double dipping when he got the chance to retire. I think this was the first year he could draw retirement. And that scenario was going to Tennessee, so it was a gigantic opportunity to be able to do that, move to the next level, and not relocate. I think it just rolled everything into a situation he couldn't turn down.

 

I'm hoping he got some sort of assurances that he won't be on the outs if/when Mary Taylor Cowles is shown the door. A lot of people think this was a job saving move by her, scapegoating Graves and buying some time.

I will miss Coach Riley. Had the pleasure of sitting with him and chatting basketball at the Sweet 16 many years ago.

I heard Shane Buttry from Madison Southern was interested in the position. He would be a good choice, and was the 2010 11th region coach of the year.

Shane would be a great choice for the job.
