Typical view of an outsider. If you think that there is money available to fix things up, but no elbow grease to do it then you are sadly mistaken. Have you been in the basketball gym or to the soccer field? Have you been to classrooms in the high school building that leak every time it rains? There is no money available to fix these things as you suggest because all of that money is going to those schools down in the mountains that have state of the are facilities that are like small college campuses.

Didn't I read recently that soccer boosters are funding a turf field?

NKU does not run concessions at these events, the host team runs them and also collects the gate. As far as I know NKU charges a very small amount for field prep. So I think your post is way off base.
Doesn't NKU collect parking money?

They have stated to but that has nothing to do with the softball program at NKU. They charge to park in any of the lots not just the softball lot.

Highlands softball field is far and away better than there soccer field, and there soccer team is one of the better programs in the state.

If your talking about Highlands gym where the varsity and jv play I'd like to know what your smokin'? That gym is so out-dated it's a crakerjack box, it ranks a notch higher than the softball field. The Jr High gym on the otherhand is very nice as is the soccer facility. I bet if Cris Collinsworth had a daughter playing softball they would not be playing in "death valley".

The argument was that there is no money. Soccer found money. I would guess softball would require less.

I think you misunderstood his point.

Soccer was given the OK to explore fundraising for a turf field. They haven't found that money yet, not even close.

Gotcha.

If so, my bad. Thx.

Outsider yes, explain to me what the problem is in Ft. Thomas. If your facilities are as bad as you say and you don't have any money then you should be getting some of that money that is going down to the mountains. Either you have the money and are misusing it or you don't and the big money areas should be helping you out.

You might want to read up on KERA, the funding each school district gets from the state. Ft. Thomas and other schools like Beechwood get penalized by the state. Fort Thomas ranks around 170 out of 174 or so of funding per pupil. And unlike some other sports, there are not many individuals willing to donate a ton of money to the softball team. A lot of the funding for the sports come from the community and the booster clubs. There are many organizations willing and trying to help with everything (ex. Ft. Thomas Education Foundation) but there is only so much money which can come from the community.

Are you saying the reason Highlands is underfunded is because they remain an independent school system? One of the things the mountain schools have done is consolidate all these small schools and made one central school Knott CO, Harlan CO, Perry CO, etc. maybe consolidating with the other Northern Campbell County schools is the solution.

The KERA needs to change not the Ft.Thomas Independent School District..
