Covington Catholic has New Coach

I like his handle and ability to get the ball ahead. Has he been reclassed? I know there was some talk about him earlier this year about being held back. If so, it will really help him develop and pace himself. Can anyone speak to this?

How does one go about being reclassed? I always thought that there had to be a reason for a kid to be held back whether it be grades or maturity issues, not for the sake of athletics.

1. This kid is not being re-classed.

2. Happens all the time.

I was referencing post #77 with regards to being re-classed. I thought I remembered reading something about that in this thread. Thanks for the clarification.

It happens all of the time at the high school level? I know it happens a lot in early grade school years, but not in high school. My kids attend a public school and each would probably have been a grade behind where they are now by todays standards, but the school system certainly would not allow me to hold them back now simply because I wanted to so that they could get some sort of competitive advantage.

Gotcha. I agree that we do not see it very often. We only see it if a prep school is involved. The KHSAA does not allow a kid to play for more than 4 years once you have been promoted from 8th grade. The Haddix kid at Scott County got dinged for this and spent what would have been his last year at Scott County out in Las Vegas at a prep school because he repeated 8th grade despite being promoted. So if you are going to hold a kid back you need to do it either from the start or before he/she finishes 8th grade.

Agreed, he is a spark and has a great handle. He sees the floor very well also. Best guard I have seen at Cov CAth in a couple years, I would imagine he will get the starting nod at PG.

Who will likely start for the Colonels next year? I am sure Frederick will be in the fold at the 2G spot.

See Elliott County a few years back when they re-classed the entire team. LOL

Anyone answering that question is spitballing since there is a new coach/new system. Lots of guards on the team - 6 or 7 that I can think of on the varsity.

Looks like he has some skills! Anyone else find it odd to film pick up games though?

Not if you're a NKY high school blogger and you have features on kids. He has a lot of videos on his site. People are wondering about this kid so he went out and filmed him.
