Question for UK fans, who do you hate/dislike more?

Featured Replies

Mike Bibby or Christian Laettner?

Just seeing Bibby with Miami made me get to wondering who annoys UK fans worse. Bibby had an impressive performance in a title game to beat a UK team that should have been favored. By most all accounts the 92 UK team was overachieving playing with Duke. If memory serves me Bibby ran his mouth a bit after the title game and Laettner had the stomp.

Just throwing this out there to see opinions. I have a feeling Laettner will win by a mile, but it's worth asking to find out.

Seriously?

Miles Simon irritated me more than Bibby. Laettner is one of the great villains of collegiate history. He is high on many people's list.

Maybe it was Simon I was thinking of, I just remember someone in 97 from Arizona ran their mouth about UK.

But either way UK winning the title game in 97 would have created the greatest streak in modern college basketball.

Seriously?

Even though I cried after that game (nine years old) I never held any kind of grudge against Bibby or any of the other players. Simon would be the one to hate although I was more envious of them all rather than hate. Now Laettner and a few others are a different story.

Definitely Simon, he was the big villain for sure back in those days. He was also who I thought was the star of those Arizona teams, its kind of ironic Bibby and some of the other guys have had a longer more successful run professionally than Simon.

Bibby was a Freshman that season and he was always projected as the better pro. Zona rolled out a lot of talent in about a 7 year span.

"Simon says 'championship.'" Ugh.

There is no DOUBT, Laetner I have always disliked him and always WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bibby said something like people who didn't believe in us can go to hades to paraphrase. Later he apologized. Laettner, not even close as villians go. Simon was a very good announcer this spring for the NCAA. Couldn't stand him in 97. Like I told two Arizona detectives bragging about the game when I was in court one day, I pointed out that we didn't have Anderson and Walker had gone to the pros. So take your two best players away (Bibby and Simon) and give us Walker and Anderson and see how close it is. My point was UK was so good that losing two great players and Zona having their team and the game goes to OT. Good recruiting.

I agree. Although I think UK still didn't need Walker. But if DA is healthy and plays that game, the outcome is a different story. Still its all speculation, but up until DA's injury he was the best player on that team.

Like a few others have mentioned, I shed a little tear in '97 after the Cats lost (I was 11). But I had a much bigger dislike for Simon too!

Rick Pitino for not playing Derek Anderson in 97.

I don't think I can blame RP for that. You don't just tear your ACL and come back to play like 3 months later.

I can certainly attest to that. I'm 5 months out and I don't feel comfortable enough at all to play ball, let alone on the stage of a National Championship.

Hate is a strong word but if I were going to use it, here is my list as a UK fan on opposing players I really, REALLY didn't like:

Ernie Grunfeld

Dwayne Scales

John Kuester (UNC)

Kent Benson

Corey Beck

Miles Simon

Rasheed Wallace

Chris Webber

I'm probably missing a few other villans but this was my short list. :D
