Under KHSAA rules are they allowed to play vs. outside competition during this period? Once you are promoted from 8th grade you fall under KHSAA rules.

 

When looking at the limitations of season by-law it seems it is not allowed. http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw25.pdf

 

I am asking because I also coach a youth team and think that it is a great opportunity for kids but is it permitted.

I coached with Merril the past 2 seasons and to sit down and listen to these guys talk about the game of football is amazing. Cris & Merril have been huge for our community and youth/high school programs.

It is my understanding that two boys from the Fort Thomas Junior Football League were selected to participate in the event this year, Mitchell Cain and Jared Dougherty. This years event will be held at the University of Texas in Austin, TX and will operate the same way as last years event. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for each of these boys to learn from some of the best coaches in the country and to compete against national and international competition. The success of last years participants in addition to USA Football's association with the FTJFL enabled this to occur.

Kids who participate in these type of events usually have to be nominated by an official of the organization or by a former Coach. Either way, how fun for these two players. This will go a long way in their development of great football players and get some great exposure. Question for anyone with any knowledge of this event. Do they have specialties? I know the Doughterty fella has an absolute booming leg on him. Would be cool to see how he competes on a National level.

To answer your question about the nomination, you are correct. They were nominated by Mick Abner who was a coach in the league last year and also helped Merrill Hoge coach last year in Canton. Also part of the nomination group was Neil Hollingsworth who was a former board member with the FTJFL.

Great honor for those two young men. They will represent Highlands well on the National level.
