Now there's a leap in logic just to put your spin on it. No one on this thread purports themselves to be in the inner circle of the decision makers. Shumate has done a great job and is a good candidate. While being an alum may serve as a tie-breaker if all other things are equal, that should not be prime consideration. Some of the most successful and long-tenured coaches in the major sports at CCH were not alum. Believe it or not, this is a very highly coveted job, as is apparent with a long list of incredibly qualified and well-respected candidates. Mr. Bob Rowe, the principal, was Brossart's varisty baseball coach for several years. He attends most basketball and football games. He knows sports, and has enjoyed incredible respect from the entire CCH community. If he doesn't select Shumate, it will because he didn't feel that Shumate was the best fit . None of the politcal reasons that you have cited will be points of consideration. They may know Shumate better than any other candidate.

I believe we may hear something either later today or by Monday.

The head-butting that I was referring to in my post that took place between Shumate and the coaches/administration at Cov Cath had nothing to do with any victories that Shumate's team had over Cov Cath. If anything, I would think that would make him a more qualified candidate.

As is often the case the reported frontunner does not always get the job. Think Wilmington,OH.

Yeah I know one is basketball and the other is football, as well as one is college and the other HS, BUT, look at Auburn Football's last hire! Many times records can be misleading. As I mentioned before, a lot of times the candidate a lot of people expect to get a position has a bad interview, or others have better ones, we have no idea what is happening in these interviews.

If Rick Shumate doesn't get the job we can all debate as to the "should he" aspect. No way in heck the reason is because BW beat CCH once in a tourney in a down year for CCH.

I guess the Moeller connection did Covington Catholic so well in football in the past, they are going to try it in basketball now!

The year before Shumate took over at Beechwood, Covington catholic lit them up by over 80 points in a district game, class move I might add. So tell me what is the difference between Beechwood and Covington catholic in the past 4 years, hmmmmmmmmm, might it be the coaching of Rick Shumate and staff that has helped close the gap. Remember, the Tigers are in the small school conference in NKY. They should not be able to compete with the mighty Colonels let alone beat them, EVER!

That is why the game is played man - upsets happen. Anyone can beat anyone on any given nite in every sport.

 

As far as the district game you mention goes, I can not comment as I honestly do not know. But I do agree with you. Shumate was the best thing that ever happened to Beechwood. I thought Herald(sp) may be able to do some things there, but I honestly have enjoyed watching Rick coach and what he has done with the Beechwood program. I for one have told many people that he would be good for the Cov Cath program. I do not know some of the others guys going after the job well enough to say what they will be able to do. However, if Rowe things they are the best for the program, then, I guess they are. Only time will tell.

I did hear that the Tigers requested to move up to DII conference for the next year, so now they will be playing all the top schools in NKY and if I know Shumate he will start to schedule the top teams in the state also. Watch out District 35, no longer will the Tiger starters run out of gas in the 4th quarter against you, since they will no longer be playing schools that they are ahead of by 25 or 30 points at the half and with Coach Shumate being the class coach he is he usually sat the starters early in those games.
