May 11, 201115 yr I wouldn't expect you too. You're a Lakers fan, thus biased. I'm a basketball fan first and not a Pau Gasol fan he is a girl but he is better than some of those guys.
May 11, 201115 yr No way. Howard Love Gasol (Marc) Bosh Randolph Amare Lopez (Nets) Aldridge Garnett Boozer Those guys are all better and I'm sure I've missed a couple others. Hate the Lakers but IMO Gasol is better than those guys, and I would probably say better than Lopez too (Lopez is just younger and has more value at this point.) You guys are basically saying because of one bad playoff run Pau Gasol is done, but that just isn't the case. Big men can produce right up until 35, 36 years old and they can give better production at an older age than wing players. I mean theres a reason guys like Shaq and Juwan Howard are still playing. Gasol will still be able to score and rebound for the next five years, and as of right now he is still one of the best bigs in the league regardless of his girly playoff performance.

Dwight Howard is the only guy on that list that is better than Pau Gasol without debate. There are a few I'd rate below him without question. And a few that are close enough to not be worth arguing either way.

A big man with range to 15 feet, shoots over 50%, double digit rebounds, arguably the best center in the NBA when you consider his low post moves and ability to score with both hands inside of 8 feet. Consistently gets at least 18 and 10 a game. Is he soft and more finesse than power? Absolutely. He is still one of the top 5 centers in the league. A bad playoff run doesn't change that. Would I be sad to see him go? Not at all. I'd rather have Bynum but I think Pau is still pretty valuable trade bait.

As I look over that list, it brings to my mind another thing that has become pretty clear in these playoffs .... there are no dominant big men in the NBA today. At least not big men in the traditional sense. Howard is the only one that is close to the traditional big man of the past. Today's big man plays out on the floor and needs to be more of a run and jump athlete and hit the 15 foot jumper. That may be another factor as you look at Pau Gasol. He is still mostly a low post player and that seems to be going by the way side.
May 11, 201115 yr One of the guys on the ESPN website were talking about Pau's deminished trade value. Funny that Lakers fans are the only ones who disagree...... He's not worthless but he has a bad contract with 3 years left, no one is going to touch that without getting Bynum or without getting out of a worse contract IMO. Doesn't make him a bad player but he has little trade value IMO because the Lakers will be on the wrong side of any deal he goes in, unless its with Bynum for Howard. JMO

He's less valuable than any other star in the league right now IMO. He's getting old, he's too soft to carry a team, he's coming off a terrible playoff run, and he has another 3 years on his deal at a high price in a labor situation that is far from setttled. Boozer is the only other big name guy that I think is close to as tough to move right now. As with the trade idea that started this, I think OKC would laugh Jerry Buss off the phone if he offered Gasol for Westbrook.
