NFL Draft Round 1 Updates...

Featured Replies

That is why getting Dalton would not give Palmer any leverage. If anything it takes away any leverage from Palmer, now the Bengals could try to call his possible bluff. If he would come back then great, and the young QB could learn for a year or two. If he is serious and does retire, then oh well we drafted the guy for the future.

Forget Dalton, the best thing the Bengals could do is make a trade for Kevin Kolb. This would give them a young WR with a semi proven QB that has some experience in the league and knows what it takes to play in the NFL..

I heard someone discussing the Browns/Falcons trade this morning. You don't see anyone giving up that many quality draft picks for proven NFL receivers yet there is one for one that's never played??

I agree with you Clyde, if you were going to give up that much why not make a trade for a top notch reciever that's already playing.

I think we'd all take Kolb over Dalton. However, that trade cannot be completed now due to the labor strife so do you take a chance on passing on Dalton and then not being able to consummate a trade? In addition, why do you think Mike Brown would give up the required players/picks for Kolb? There doesn't seem to be in the way of history to think he will.

I thought they were allowed to start trading players today?

Today at 8 am, according to what I read last night.

Didn't know that. Thanks.

From what I saw earlier, still no player trades today... Likely some time next week, though.

I may have misread.

Glad the Browns got Phil Taylor NT. He is going to be a great player for them.

You think so? I don't know anything about him, but my friends that are Browns fans were not pleased to hear his name called.

Kolb is not even semi proven. His numbers in the games he played last year before he lost his job were worst than Palmers, and well know how most Bengals fans felt about Palmer last year. Kolb has never proven anything yet. Only thing he has would be more knowledge of the NFL game than a rookie will have. Does not mean he would end up being better though.

No way they can start Palmer the first month if he comes back the Saturday before the season starts. He won't even know 1 play in the offense. If they draft Dalton I'd still guess they try to get a veteran backup or starter like Hasselbeck or Bulger. Palmer comes back the day before the season, out of shape, with no clue of the playbook and then what do they do?

Where did you come up with the Saturday before the season starts? I agree they wouldn't be able to start him if that was the case. If he came back though, I don't think it will be that late into it. I think after the first week of training camp where he see's that wow Mike Brown really is not going to trade him, that he will want to play. People get burnt out after bad seasons, however by the time football starts going again around training camp. That is when people start getting that itch again to want to play.

Locked back out...

Please explain

Per John Clayton

The NFL will have a "soft'' launch to the 2011 league year by allowing players into team facilities for workouts starting Friday. A "harder'' launch will be announced Friday, when the league divulges plans for transactions.

What does this mean for the league's three-day draft and the short-term future? Here are the five things you need to know.

1. The draft is only a draft. The league will not allow veteran trades, signings or releases from Thursday to Sunday. Draft choices can be traded but no trade can involve players. Undrafted players still can't be signed until possibly Monday at the earliest, and interested teams cannot contact them. That process could start Monday.
