April 19, 201115 yr Fair warning, they are pretty tough to get into. First 200 or so pages is all setting up the plot. One you hit the Inn scene( those people who have read the book know what I'm talking about) then it starts to get good. Also as Peprock said, I have been reading Martins blog alot lately just because Game of Thrones is "in" I guess you could say and I just dont have a good liking for the guy. They had me interested pretty early...but, I think I just enjoy Martin's writing style. If you read the first book, you'll be hooked. The scope of the story just keeps expanding and pulling you deeper in. I'm interested to see how it all gets resolved.
April 19, 201115 yr I finally got my sister into reading them and if your gonna read them I will basically give you a cliffnote version of the characters because it helped her out ALOT she said. The books are basically similar in length. There is supposed to be a total of 7 books in the series but only 4 have been released and a 5th is coming soon, hopefully. Eddard(Ned)- Main character I guess you could say. King's Hand. Lord of one of the Seven Kingdoms Bran- Ned's son Caitlyn- Ned's wife Sansa, Arya- Ned's daughters Jon- Ned's other son Tyrion- A Lannister and a dwarf. (My 2nd favorite character, outside of his brother Jaime) Daenerys- Dont really know how to explain her that well for a person just starting. Anything else you need to know about the book feel free to ask. Robert Baratheon is the current king. The Targaryens were the ruling family prior to that before they were murdered and overthrown. Daenerys was a baby when that happened. She is the last Targaryen and the rightful heir to the throne and her goal is to eventually return and reclaim it. How's that for a brief synopsis? There's more that could be added, but that lets you know the basics.
April 19, 201115 yr Dany at this point is my favorite character although I am quite fond of the members of House Martell at this point as well. I mean in the books since we have a long way to go before we meet them in the show. Daenerys Jon Snow Bran Stark Arya Stark Tyrion Lannister Those are the characters that interest/intrigue me the most for various reasons.

April 19, 201115 yr Hey guys. Can we be courteous and remember to put spoiler alerts at the very least?
April 19, 201115 yr Author My apologies. I didn't view it as a major revelation. Thats the main reason I didnt want to give a full description of Daeneys
April 19, 201115 yr Thats the main reason I didnt want to give a full description of Daeneys  In the words of Lt. Frank Drebin, "I realize that...now." I didn't even think about it when I typed it. At this point, awaiting the 5th book, that seems like a minor detail so it didn't register in my mind. I'll try to be more aware in the future so as not to offend anyone else.
April 20, 201115 yr Author One thing I was curious about was what HBO would do with the adult scenes. They sure as heck didnt shy away from em
April 20, 201115 yr One thing I was curious about was what HBO would do with the adult scenes. They sure as heck didnt shy away from em :lol:It's HBO man. No worries about them shying away from anything. Hell, at times the series Rome bordered on being well-written soft core porn.
April 20, 201115 yr Watched the first episode knowing nothing about the series at all. I really liked it although I did have a little trouble keeping track of the characters. I am now considering reading the books.
April 20, 201115 yr Per Martin's livejournal it looks like it has already been picked up for a second season. A this rate he had better get cracking on the last few books, because the show will likely catch up to it if they do a book per season.
