I enjoy his writing style. But, as far as the story goes, it only draws you deeper in. It gets much better. The scope of it is amazing to me. I don't see how he keeps track of it all to write it.

I read at a really slow pace for myself for the first few chapters as I really tried to let all the relationships sink in. After the first 1/8th of the book or so I was at my normal pace and having zero trouble keeping up with all of them.

Today is killing me. Everyone I know is off, but I have to work and all I want to do is get home and keep reading it. :lol:

 

As soon as someone mentioned it was of the likes of LOTR, I knew I'd be hooked immediately, and I am.

We are actually going through a totally revamping of our system at work. I was able to sit and read undisturbed for a lot of the work day. Unfortunately I will be paying for it come Monday when my work load grows exponentially for the next few weeks.

I didn't have that much trouble keeping up with things as I read the books. Its trying to recall the stuff 5+ years later. I think the last two books will come quicker. Martin changed course after beginning the 4th book and I think that caused the extended hiccup. Hopefully that's the case.

The second episode aired tonight and I thought it was great. I'm glad I did the research online that I did to learn more about the characters as it made this episode much easier to follow then the first one was last week. During my research I did get some spoilers of what's going to happen and that has made me a little more anxious to see how the series unfolds. I'm really thinking that I'm going to pick up the books.

So far, knowing what happens hasn't affected my enjoyment of the show one iota. In fact, like you said, I think knowing the characters has actually enhanced it.

 

It is also fun to follow along and see where the show deviates from the book. None of the changes have been of any significance, but since I started re-reading the series last week, it is all pretty fresh, so its easy to spot when something is different.

Just ordered the first book from Amazon.com. Once it arrives finding the time to actually read it may become an issue.

That's my biggest issue so far. I bought it Wednesday night, and am only about 100 pages into it. This weekend I had almost no free time to get into it. So far I'm loving it though. Going to Columbus for the next 3 days for work should give me plenty of time to get a lot of quality reading in though.

Agree with 5wide. I'm extremely happy about how close it is following to the book. I honestly can't remember the last time I was this excited for a tv show.

I don't know if they're my favorite series of books ever, but they are definitely the hardest to stop reading. The way the chapters are written from character POV's...for instance, if I'm reading a chapter of Eddard Stark and it ends with a cliffhanger, I can't stop until I get to him again, but by that time, one of Arya or Jon Snow or someone else's chapter will have me hooked. Addictive.

Its been so long since I read them, I don't remember much, so it is almost like reading them for the first time. I don't feel like I'm plowing through something against just to refresh my memory.
