Fits the characters perfectly, they have to cram character impressions into short snippets. I think it did that well here.

Except you know coming out and blatantly saying that Renly was gay as opposed to just hinting at it. I mean by the time you got to the most recent book there was no doubt about it, it was just kind of out of place to me.

 

Funny enough...I never caught on that Renly and Loras were gay lovers the first time I read these books. I did catch it in my re-read. Not sure how I missed it. However, it has no importance to the story, IMO, so I was surprised they had that scene in this episode.

I agree. Lysa's relationship with her son is extremely important whereas Loras and Renly being lovers is really unimportant to the story. I also don't like how they are making look like Loras is the motivating force behind Renly wanting the throne, I seem to recall Renly wanting it on his own in the book.

A suggestion for people like me who are watching without having read the book before. Check out HBOGO. They have an Inside Look for Game of Thrones with lots of background information on the characters and the houses. It has been quite helpful. It has also helped me better follow the book. I've just about caught up with the series. I hope that by Sunday I will have passed where the series is. Also did ou all catch that immediately after the show airs Sunday night the next chapter will be available at HBOGO?

It all added up when I realized it, but it just never dawned on me the first time through. Stannis commented that Renly's wife was likely to die a maiden in his bed. In one scene, Renly told everyone to leave and requested that Loras stay and help him pray. It is consistently noted that Renly loves nice and colorful clothing. Later, when someone asked Loras why he joined the Kingsguard, his reply pretty much confirmed it if you still weren't sure.

 

It all makes sense now. It is never explicitly stated in the books, but it is fairly obvious to me now. As I said, I'm not sure how I missed it the first time. And, the fact that I missed it is evidence of the fact that it plays no role in how the story unfolds and advances in the books. It is interesting that they chose to make it known and a bigger role half way through the first season, when it plays no factor in the books and was well into the second book before it became somewhat clear that he was gay.

 

I don't mind it, nor do I think it will damage the show. Just interesting that they chose to do it that way.

I'm a little behind watching this past weeks episode but I cant remember the last time I have been so impressed with a tv show. It really is just as good as the books themselves.

Finally I'm ahead of the series in the book.

I'm less than 200 pages from finishing A Feast for Crows. Now I'll have to wait a month for the new one. I was hoping to time that better, but I read the books too fast.

 

Love the show. I think they're doing a fantastic job. There's a lot to get into to 10 one hour episodes, and sometimes it may seem a little bit rushed, but overall I think they're doing a great job. I don't see how anyone could complain thus far. I would have loved to see them do 12 or 13 episodes so they would have had a little more time to work with, developing and introducing characters. I talked to a friend of mine who said he'd gone back and watched the series again and enjoyed it better now that he knew the characters better. At the beginning, many of the characters were in the story before you knew who they were if you hadn't read the books.

 

Regardless, I'm excited about seasons two and three already. They're working on Season Two right now.

I literally finished the series 2 nights ago. Was trying to time it like you were :lol:. Now I have a month of nothing to read. I'm excited for the new book tho.
