I found this in the Lexington Herald. Just out of curiousity is it the norm that there is not a player from each team represented in the sweet sixteen all tournament team? I know in the regionals they represent at least one player from each team that made it to the regional finals. I just never paid much attention before.

Cory Rogers was awarded his all tourney award right after the Eastern game, which was the quarter finals.

 

Congrats to all these players on making the all tourney team!!! Also congrats to Michael Martin of GRC for recieving the Academic scholarship.

Looks like a team had to advance to the second round to have a player selected to the all-tourney team. Which begs the question - what if a player put up a monster game in Round 1 but his team still lost? My guess is no all-tourney team; does anyone know for sure?

All good picks and Hickey was incredible. It's been awhile since I saw one player will his team to the title. He just makes everyone around him better and focuses on his team "winning".

Does make you wonder about the guy who puts up (hypothetically) 40 and 20 in a 3OT loss in the first round to a much higher-ranked team. Looks like there ought to be some way to recognize that kind of performance.

 

But on the flip side, I'm old enough to remember a world where not everyone gets a trophy, so I'm ultimately okay with the concept of no all-tourney reps on all-tourney teams. 14 guys is enough.

I actually think basing the team based on how far you advanced is more "everyone gets a trophy" than it would be basing it on the best players regardless of advancement. You've got a quota of players from each round. From the above, looks like 3 from each finalist, 2 from each semifinalist, 1 from the quarterfinalists. I do not think that is the way to do it.

 

Granted, that's enhanced to me this year given that I think Warren Central had two guys worthy of placement (George Fant and Jordan Shanklin) and got none because a random draw in January placed us against the #1 team in the state. By the flip side, had Central pulled off the upset, players like Abell and Gaines would have been left out.

I'm not a fan of the current format. Very unfair to a player like Fant whose punished for being the recipient of a tough random draw and rewarding players from teams who received favorable ones.

Gavin's father is Forrest Dunagan who played for Wayne Co. in the late 70s. He would be a distant cousin to Duane.
