Bopper Stenzel's role has not been to score this year. His role is to take care of the ball, which he does a heck of a job at. He averaged 20 ppg this summer. He is a tough player!

Well watching both teams, I will say that Oldham has some size and atheltes as well, I think that it will be a good game. Clark has lost some players #23 and #12 and are olny play 7 guys. I wonder if #11 can score for them? I think Oldham can spread them out and beat them off the dribble, question is can Oldham rebound with Clark, if they do it will be intersting game. Either way if Eastern is in game 2 for Clark, how will they handle pressure, the games I have seen them lose, Ballard and Henry Clay for example they did not handle it well!

Dont' know where you are getting your info but #23 is on the team...here is a picture of him in the finals of the region:

As far as #11 he knows his role, and plays it very well, but can hit the 3 if he needs to. He had Two 3's in the finals of the region. Slack off of him and Bopper can burn you. When you have Zollo, R.Stenzel, Rogers, Daniels and Purvis all scoring in double figures on given nights hard to key in on one player.

I too think it will be a good game, just hope the Cards win.....:D

Not going to discuss a Eastern matchup....taking one game at a time.

This is the Oldham County Colonels fifth trip to Rupp this decade, having gone in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2007.

Oldham County is probably one of the most under-rated teams in the Sweet 16, but even if they deserve more accolades, they certainly will have to have a great performance to get past the first round matchup with a team very deserving of being ranked one of the top 2 in the event. I've seen GRC, and love their play. They have it all...but I think Oldham has a very real chance in this game, far more than people give them credit for. Could this be ugly? Yes, I believe it could be. Oldham MUST play smart, disciplined basketball in order to have a chance to win. But if they do, they could give GRC a real battle.

Oldham has size, with 6'6" junior center Tyler Wesley and 6'5" senior forward Nolan Denise. Both are tremendous shooters from any range and can handle the ball. Blake Payne is a 6'2" forward who is the younger brother of Billy Payne, who played on the Colonels' 2007 region champs.

Senior guard Dylan Henderson can stretch defenses if he gets hot - he had 6 threes in the region tourney final vs. Spencer. Junior guard Kerry Smith is a three time all-region selection.

Impossible to key on any one Colonel as nobody averages more than 13 ppg, and almost anyone in the top 9 are capable of double-digit scoring on any given night.

Wesley, Denise, and Smith were all all-region performers.

Oldham can go deep, with Alante Flores, Parker Simpson, Dylan Simms, and Sam Gruber all getting quality minutes off the bench. All can score.

Oldham shot nearly 49% from the floor on the season, and shot FTs very well overall in the district and regional tournaments - a must in post-season play. But the team's forte this year has been defense, as they have allowed less than 50 ppg this year...

Oldham must finish their plays inside against the GRC bigs, and hit their jumpers in cavernous Rupp - a known graveyard for so many teams' shooting percentages. They must maintain their traditionally good defense, because I don't think they want to have to chase GRC if the Cardinals get a 12-15 point lead. It's going to be a tough, tough assignment, but you have to play the top teams to earn the right to be called the best. Just the way it is.

Thanks so much for your input. Was waiting for your post. I too think this will be much closer than most are thinking. Oldham has size and great guards I have been told. Didn't know they were that deep, will be a plus playing on the bigger floor.

Should be a great game to start off the 2011 State tourney.

They have only been playing those 7 guys as of late, I think #23 got in with the game out of reach with Pendleton. Is #12 still playing? Against Scott County this year he was great on defense. #11 does his job well he will have to score at Rupp I promise. Daniels is a beast! Golden sunrise is he being looked at by anyone college wise? Rogers defintely makes them go inside and Stenzel shoots the eyes out.

Leave Bopper open....he will burn you. Yes several colleges is looking at Daniels. GRC is very hard to defend, very unselfish team. Key in on one player and another one steps up.

Great information Col Mike! Greatly appreciated!

Sounds like Oldham has some good height and outside shooting. This sounds like the making of a great opening game!

According to Colonel Mike they may be favored to win it all.

Heart warming story in our paper today about one of our managers I wanted to share.

Cardinals sing praises of team manager Carson Hunter

http://www.centralkynews.com/winchestersun/news/ws-cardinals-sing-praises-of-team-manager-carson-hunter-20110314,0,3263225.story

Every afternoon, Carson Hunt heads to the George Rogers Clark High School gym with the other members of the boys basketball team.

When it’s time for a road game, Carson is there riding the bus with everyone else.

And after practice, when the guys decide to head to Lexington to eat and hang out at Cane’s, Carson is there, too.

After Carson’s father, David Hunt, passed away from cancer in 2009, Humphrey said he wanted to reach out to Carson in some way. Humphrey recalled that when he first moved to Clark County, the elder Hunt befriended him and made him feel like part of the community.

“I couldn’t imagine being in Carson’s shoes,” said Humphrey, who has been the Cardinals’ head coach since 2004.

When Humphrey first approached him about being part of the team, Carson said, he was a little uncertain because he didn’t know what role the manager would fill. After talking to his mom, though, he knew it was something he wanted to try.

Senior Robbie Stenzel even gave Carson credit for helping the team make it to the state tournament for the first time since 2007.

“He definitely lightens us up before games. He talks a lot of trash. He gets us mad so we want to play better. I guess that’s part of his strategy. We didn’t make it to Rupp without him,” Stenzel said.

When GRC played in the 10th Region championship game, Carson had some words of encouragement for all the players.

“He said, ‘You guys better pull this off so I can hand water out at Rupp,’” Stenzel said.

Carson admitted to giving the players a hard time, but he said he likes being able to talk to them about anything.

“We talk about how much we want to win state. We talk about sports a lot. When they miss a shot in practice, I’ll say, ‘Good shot,’” Carson said.

Although Carson said he has been to Rupp Arena before, Wednesday’s game against Oldham County will be his first time there as part of the team. He said he is looking forward to the extra time hanging out with the other guys, and, of course, cheering for a Clark County victory.

If Clark County wins, fans can expect to see one very excited 13-year-old boy.

“I will probably be the happiest I’ve ever been,” Carson said.

Nice story and it seems like when state tournament comes around, there is always a great story that is associated with teams that come to Rupp. Just another reason why Kentucky High School basketball is special. Kudos to the 13 year old boy who will live out a dream I am sure with players that he no doubt idolizes. A real feel good story.

GRC by 16. They have played a tough schedule, some big games, should have them ready for Rupp.

According to Colonel Mike they may be favored to win it all.[/quote

OC has no chance at winning this game. As being a former player who played against these players they cannot match up with Clark County in any way, shape, or form. Their stats and record look decent because they played in the 8th region that is awful this year now compared to last year and years past. Colonel Mike gives good input about them but they're not a good team. Kerry Smith is the only player who cant compete with the kids in Clark County. OC plays a very slow pace of game and is going to try to win this game in the 30's or 40's which wont happen at all. This one will get ugly quick. Guarantee
