Agreed to disagree. Gotta be a mix of talent and coaching. And, this comment for AKW - body of work in regular season and post season is how I judge a coach. At Conner, 6 of 8 losing seasons and a losing record in the post season. So, a below average coach to me. Good programs rarely have a losing season. I don't call Conner a good program or Coach Hicks a good coach, but you can if you would like. Right now in Boone Co - Boone is a good program, Ryle an average program, Conner and Cooper below average programs. The records speak for themselves.

If there is soooo much talent in Boone County how come there have been sooooo few Sweet 16 births? Go back to around 1950 and see how many 9th region titles have been won by all this talent in Boone County. I would venture to say that there is around 6, Boone I think has three and Ryle has two and Conner has 1. It could easily be less than that. Dont talk about all the great talent in Boone County without thinking about the results that have been produced over the years.................................

 

And..... there are some great coaches at Conner, look at their other programs and there are great coaches....................

Before long ... There will be no decent coaches left at Conner ... Because of the whining from the "chosen few"

Sure sounds familar ... doesn't it? I have my thoughts on it ... but those are best left unsaid at this point.

Good thing the big guy is back as the head track coach.

 

What I am willing to say ... is that there are people in Hebron who feel like they need to have a voice in everything--when they obviously don't have a clue. This thread being a prime example. All I know is what I have seen and heard with my eyes ... and things have changed out there. All I will say ... is smoke and mirrors. Smoke and mirrors ....

My appologies to all of the other sports at Conner High School because my comment was intended to cover the basketball program only. Since we were in the basketball discussion., but I have since seen the light and after reading many postings I now agree that there are no bad coaches out there. Every coach in NKY is a great coach because they all dedicate their time and care about the players. Winning is not important and shouldn't be used to judge success. These coaches take time away from their families to come and sit on that bench for these players and we need to show them some gratitude for this. Who cares if they don't win, who cares if talent goes undeveloped and wasted, who cares if poetential scholarships are lost. That is not what is important. What is important is that these guys be treated wih respect and not criticised for their short comings. I feel so much better now that I understand how this system works. I am going to speak with my boss about implementing a similar system in my workplace where our employees are not graded by how many sales they make, but by how many days they come to work. because gosh darnit they took the time to get out of bed and come in so they need to be appreciated for that. I see that going over real well.

Your sense of sarcasm stinks ....

You need to realize that outside of you and basically one other person ... people are is agreement as to what the issues are.

 

There was a lack of player leadership and toughness. That theme has been consistent all year. It hasn't changed.

Why you think the coach never made attempts to address that ... is something I will never know--because the proof is there.

 

At the end of the day ... your thoughts are your own ... you are entitled to them.

However .. it may help to see things through objective eyes (which I doubt you could ever do).

Oh yeah ... one more question for you .... Have you ever taken time to talk with Coach Hicks? Maybe get his perspective on things? I bet I know the answer to that one .....

To whom it may concern. I consider myself to be very close to the Conner team. As unfortunate and dissapointing as this season may have been it is now water under the bridge. I know these kids, I know they played hard and I honestly believed that Coach Hicks wanted to win. There were several hundred people in the stands that all have their ideas of what needed to be done to win, but the bottom line is that it was up to the team and coaching staff and not anyone else. The players were sadened, the parents were sadened, and so was the coaching staff. Conner happens to be in one of the toughest districts in the region and it would have been just as upsetting had Ryle not advanced. I understand emotions are high because this really was a good group who didn't get the regional experience in their careers. Hopefully the players gain strength from this and the future Cougars do well. I will continue to be a fan.

I live outside the district and my son happened to attend a summer basketball camp and had a blast. He was not treated like an outsider. He had fun, coach Hicks and his staff were first rate. The high school ballplayers acted with class. I am sure many are disappointed with the outcome of the season. I still have respect for the program and believe it is in good hands.
