February 25, 201115 yr ??? Not sure how you can say that. I meant in the sense that it would be done just the same with non-union labor. Yes, the workers that built were union but that's not why it was built.

February 25, 201115 yr You can thank the Unionized construction worker for the Alaskan oil pipeline ! If they would have depended on Non-union labor in the 70's it would not have been built . Today you have a valid argument If your original post would have said "you can thank the engineers, support staff, unionized workers, ect..." this converstation would have never happened. All we ever here from the pro union is how they are for the working class. Are the engineers and support staff not working class? The fact is unions are for one thing and that's themselves. That don't give two rat farts for anyone not in their union. And the higher you go in a union the worse it gets.

If not for the engineers and the support staff office workers etc and the unionized construction workers the pipeline would not have been built . We worked together as a team on this project to help the country to try to become more energy independent . And what else are Unions for if not to help their membership .

The leaders of my LU ,are people I helped vote into office and serve at the membership's pleasure , and if they don't do an honest and responsible job they are voted out , and go right back working next to the the general membership , the people that voted them out .

February 26, 201115 yr There's some union leaders making big bucks but considering how large the organizations are that they run I think those salaries are very reasonable.

February 26, 201115 yr If you believe that you live in a fantasy land. I've seen it first hand. I know it . The Business manager and business agents of my LU get paid for forty hours at a journeymans scale and the use of a car while they are in office and as I said when they leave office they go back to work as a journeyman and lose the car .
February 26, 201115 yr Do the oil companies need a reason to raise the prices, they'll do it at anyway they seem fit, the war here the unrest there, GWB's policy on one thing or another, it's the first of the month, all planest are inline, Michael Jackson had another nose operation, any little ridiculous excuse available. Just like that.

I guess I didn't make my point clear and I would qualify by saying it obviously doens't apply to 100% of the unions out there especially on the local level. But if you think all union heads are just good ole working boys out for the best interests of their members then you've got your head in the sand.

I only know about the elected leaders of my Union ( United Association of of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada ) both local and International all are elected by the membership the leaders of the International union come from the local leaders and are elected at an annual convention and serve at our pleasure . I've been a member now for 44 years . And yes they all are as you say "good ole working boys "
February 27, 201115 yr Author Hows this for you then. I think that as a whole plumbers are bigger money grubbers then anyone. No one deserves the fees they charge.
