Good interior passing by the Colonels. Good to see.

 

Let's give a shout out to both Schult and Austin Hudepohl for their defensive prowess. Schult is just a pain the rear end if you have the ball. Austin simply knows how to play outstanding TEAM defense. He did a great job of sliding over when Setty drove from the top of the key against Jake Thelen. Great, great help D that stymied MC.

 

Theoldguy wants to tip his hat to Mr. Tom Arnzen who scored six points last night and played a whale of a game both in the JV and Varsity matchup. We are just starting to see the Tom that I knew he could be after his leg injury last year!

Baker had instant success and fame in the early part of the season displaying what he is capable of with very little varsity experience. Even though we haven't seen much of that magic of late I have to believe that there's still an undercurrent of learning that is taking place with him. My gut is telling me that this growing experience is going to pay off especially in the post season when his survivor instincts kick in. Maybe I'm dreamin' but I'm expecting to see him go off and show us again that magic which will fuel the whole team to click on all cylinders. Lately CovCath has been distant from the conversation of being a 9th Region power, but I still think there's a chance for them to make a late season run. When thinking about Baker I can't help but remember about 5 years ago when Danny Noll came out of nowhere and put the Colonels on his back to win Region. This year there's way to many strong teams in the 9th to go as far as making any bold statements that I think CovCath with be top dog at the end, but I believe that all the elements are there and if they can stir them all together and keep the consistency, their hat in the ring can be just as valid as any team in the 9th.

No big feat to beat Mason without Gilbert and Setty not 100%, I wouldn't read too much in to this game. They've only had 3 kids score consistently for them all year and Gilbert is one of them. Nobody can pick up the slack for Mason and that'll be a theme for the next 3-5 years for sure.

Question for the Mason fans. Some CCH fans have witnessed over the last couple of year "negative vibes" or "negative energy" on the court so we're experts at noticing it.

 

I seemed to notice that with MC tonight. Has that been a problem or is it just a one-game bad night situation? Lots of bickering. Lots of shaking of the heads when a teammate didn't do well, etc.

 

I noticed some of that in the GRC game other night. Just figured it was due to the big game but maybe there is and undercurrent. In particular I noticed Pawsat and Setty in a timeout after Setty had made a bad play, they seemed a little heated. Again it was probaly just the intensity of the game. In general I don't think kids today are as tight as teammates as they used to be. I think where they play so much AAU ball, sometimes on different teams, and have different personal agendas that the teams don't have the chemistry of a few years ago. Also as someone else said the Mason kids have more than games going on right now. They are a quality program and will figure it out and be a tough out for anyone come tourney time.

I think most realize this isn't an MC team of the recent past. It was a good win though considering the struggles CCH has had recently, considering the offense is limited to the inside players, considering they made a change in the lineup , and considering they started off losing 11-2.

No you didn't miss his name on radio. I noticed the same thing regarding playing time. Seems to be their best shooting, helps handle the ball, doesn't turn it over, plays adequate defense, boxes out and a leader type. Seems to have gone for double figures a lot this year. Should be playing more

Gilbert took a shot to the head against Clark Co. and hasn't played since. Mr Murphy who was the time keeper at Mason,the baseball coach, and I think drove the bus to away games, passed away.

I saw Rogers tell the referee when Gilbert went down, "thats my teammate". Maybe some of the fans should calm down and show the class he showed when his summer "teammate" was on the ground.
