No you didn't miss his name on radio. I noticed the same thing regarding playing time. Seems to be their best shooting, helps handle the ball, doesn't turn it over, plays adequate defense, boxes out and a leader type. Seems to have gone for double figures a lot this year. Should be playing more

 

Thanks! I wasn't sure if I missed his name as I was at a place that and some noise and thought I had to have been missing his name. That's kind of odd isn't it? One of your best scorers, ball handlers and leaders as you mentioned, and a Sr too? Really like watching thus kid play! Can shot the three like crazy at times.

Baker had instant success and fame in the early part of the season displaying what he is capable of with very little varsity experience. Even though we haven't seen much of that magic of late I have to believe that there's still an undercurrent of learning that is taking place with him. My gut is telling me that this growing experience is going to pay off especially in the post season when his survivor instincts kick in. Maybe I'm dreamin' but I'm expecting to see him go off and show us again that magic which will fuel the whole team to click on all cylinders. Lately CovCath has been distant from the conversation of being a 9th Region power, but I still think there's a chance for them to make a late season run. When thinking about Baker I can't help but remember about 5 years ago when Danny Noll came out of nowhere and put the Colonels on his back to win Region. This year there's way to many strong teams in the 9th to go as far as making any bold statements that I think CovCath with be top dog at the end, but I believe that all the elements are there and if they can stir them all together and keep the consistency, their hat in the ring can be just as valid as any team in the 9th.

Only 4 minutes playing time last night and he and other guards are being blamed for the losses going back to December. This problem has been going on since they returned from the Lexington Catholic Tournament. We've seen this same thing happen time after time under this coaching staff. CCH starts to lose, coach has to blame someone. Looks like this senior leader -who has given 110% to this team - has turned into the scape goat.

I think you're reaching a bit. It appears to me (and I'm going mainly from checking boxscores since I haven't seen this as much as you) that for the last month there has been very little scoring from the guard position. The scoring is coming from the front line. If that's the case then it appears that Coach L has made the decision to insert more defense into the lineup at the 2 position. You can't argue that Schult is one of the top defenders around. He also seems to get points from his defense.

Your understanding, in general is correct, however with the primary focus on scoring from Thelen and Connelly the guards have not had the opportunity to put up gaudy numbers. Schult is not going to give the team any more points at the 2 guard position that they have gotten from Reidinger, Hudepohl or Cleves. I will not deny that Schult should have been receiving more playing time, but that should be in the place of Baker who hasn't played well since early in the season. I love Schult's game but he is not a shooting guard. The front line has been the primary scorers the entire year - nothing is different now from the very first game.

It is a tough situation. Brett is a better pure shooter and Andrew is a better defender. Basketball is all about match ups, so it may depend on who they are playing as to who gets more minutes. I also agree that there are times when Andrew should be getting his minutes, not playing the 2 guard. I am hoping at this point in the year that the players put aside playing time concerns (fair or unfair) and focus on the team winning. If they can do that (not an easy thing I understand), I think they still have a chance to make some noise in the post season.
