Could just be an isolated incident, but Lex Cath gets nailed for giving an academic scholarship to a kid in public middle school, who will be heading into high school, who does not come close to meeting the criteria to gain such scholarships.

What should the general public we construe that as?

Good Fortune for the kid . Did he apply for an academic scholarship? Is he an excellent student? Was there competition for the scholarship?

Ease up Brother, who said anything about an "academic scholarship"? My recollection was that there was an existing student who was "helped" with his tuition halfway through the year after his family suffered some kind of economic hardship. The student did not return to LexCath this year. As I understand it, this does violate KHSAA rules and LexCath will face fines and sanctions because of it.

Point blank...an academic scholarship was awarded to a middle school kid who had nowhere near the grades to garner such aid based on academic prowess.

Look at it this way.

Why did LC not even begin to put up a fight on the issue?

There was no other way around it...they were guilty as charged.

Where and when Please?

Without going into too many details, the rumor is that Lexington Catholic's probation is a result of a middle school kid getting rewarded an academic scholarship, when the students' scores were not quite up to par. So basically, the students' scores were not judged by the same criteria that the others were.

I do not think that this goes on very often, but when it does there should be some type of punishment. FWIW, I am a private school graduate & supporter.

People still seem to forget that even if the student gets the MAX assistance his family is still going to be paying around $3500 a year to go to X or T. There arent magical free ride atheletic scholarships flying around.

Stop spreading the rumors and just cite the facts . When will the Khsaa release the facts in this case if ever?

I was sent this by someone from LexCath that has given me solid info in the past:

I know you guys don't like to have rumors on your site without confirmation or facts backing them up. I can assure you 100% that our situation did not involve a middle school student with an academic scholarship. It was however hardship cases of mid-year financial aid to high school students where some of the student were athletes and the school did not first contact FAIR, the financial aid company in Minnesota. The appeals period ends on Thursday and I would expect that the KHSAA will be releasing some sort of a statement shortly thereafter or once they formally decide upon the punishment measures that will be levied.

Thanks Guru
