Great to see the KHSAA finally stand up for a ref.

 

Give me a break. There is no accountability for officials.

The KHSAA needs to do a better job of getting good officials because there is so few of them.

 

Maybe that's because they don't want to listen to folks like yourself who, though they can't or won't do the job, think they are experts at it.

$1,500 dollar fine??? Are you kidding me?? Good for KHSAA to hold Coach Morrow accountable!! My question is who will pay the fine? Says the J Town Basketball program. Does this basically translate into the J Town Boys Basketball Boosters? I know that personnel decisions are made by the pricipal so the booster club has no authority over the coach. Will the principal allocate the $1500 to pay the fine? I also know how tight education budgets are as well as athletic budgets. My opinion there is no excuse for Morrow's foolishness. I've witnessed his act before and it ain't pretty.

I agree they need to look for a new coach, but I can GUARANTEE that won't happen. And, I think you are absolutely right about where the money is coming from. Another GUARANTEE that it is coming out of the basketball fund, not Morrow's pocket.

Actually, in the CJ article, Morrow states he'll be paying the fine out of his own pocket, as he doesn't feel it's right for the school to pay it.

Not sure the exact total but this is at least the fourth time that he has been reprimanded by the KHSAA. Morrow also has multiple techs this year. I know that his school wins and gets some very talented transfers, but how long is his rope? JCPS holds "character first" seminars for its coaches. Will they step in and be heard? Will Jtown just put up with the bad publicity? Just wonderin

That is how it should be. It was his actions that brought the fine, and if he does I do believe it will hurt his pocketbook. Not sure what coaches in Jefferson County make in coaching stipends. I would guess that most across the State make in the 5k to 8k range for basketball. Take taxes out of that, then the fine, and the per hour take home for coaching ain't a whole lot.

I don't know anything about that region's officials, but I guarantee they get the best refs they can to work the LIT.

I have no problem with what coach Morrow got. I just wonder what actions the association took on the officials. This was a big game with a lot on the line. There were 3 officials and they should have gotten together and made the right call. TV replays showed it was clearly late. Even the kid who made the basket admitted it was late. Coaches have no voice to turn to. The head of the officials is a former ref. Those three should not get a regional game if they cant handle big game atmospheres.

Some coaches' contracts stipulate that they pay all fines to state, etc., not the school or athletic department.

Not near as much on the line as if it was win or go home, like in post season regional tournament play. Did they have backboards that light up at the buzzer? Franklin County was beaten by Henry Clay last season because the refs did not count a basket at the buzzer for FC. At EKU the technology was in place with the lighted backboards, to clearly see that the basket should have counted. Refs did not get together to make the right call, FC went home. Sure the coaches were upset, but no police escorts, and no fines. It's inexcusable, Morrow has had repeated reprimands, and he continues the foolishness. I think someone posted 4. I thought it was 3 strikes and you're out? I'm sure there are many quality individuals, with quality basketball credentials, that would love to coach at J Town, where there are such talented athletes.

Glad to see KHSAA taking some action........we need more groups (especially local school administrators, athletic directors, etc.) to be less tolerant of unsportmanship behavior exhibited by coaches. This only serves to encourage fans to respond in a likewise negative manner, not to mention the terrible example it sets for our student athletes. With this kind of action being exhibited in public, we can only imagine the attitude/language that is used in practice.........which is usually behind closed doors.
