Consistent - I wish the ref's would have been consistent.

Turnovers were a big issue for both teams. As stated before - not a pretty game.

 

Agree, more of a problem in the second half I thought.

Is Prewitt having a down year so far? Just don't hear about him as much. I watched him play 3 times last year and didn't think his teammates(the upper classmen) looked for him whatsoever, he had to create everything on his own

 

Prewitt is averaging around 18 points per game, so he's not exactly having a down year. However, defenses are keying in on Prewitt, which is freeing up Handshoe to have a breakout year. Handshoe is averaging nearly 20 points per game, and is a very improved player from last year.

Was this margin of victory the result of GRC beating Montgomery by 29 earlier in the year? Maybe they thought it would be a walk in the park?

I think Mo Co game out charing with the 3's and hit it hard. I believed that GRC looked sluggish, and MoCo came ready to play. Once things settled down, GRC started capalizing on Turnovers and getting some points

Central Bank Classic offers full days of hoops action

Saturday, Jan. 15, will offer a full day of basketball at Letcher Norton Gym as the MLK Central Bank Cardinal Classic gets underway at 10:30 a.m. The schedule includes:

10:30 a.m. Card Junior Varsity vs. Dixie Heights

12:00 Dixie Heights vs. Gallatin County

1:45 Lewis County vs. Frankfort

3:30 Russell vs. Highlands

5:30 Cards vs. Warren Central

7:30 Lady Cards vs. Bourbon County Girls

GRC missed Rogers and looked a little out of sync but Robbie Stenzel was outstanding. Montgomery Co kids played their tails off and had it to 5 or 6 with 1:30 left but GRC hit some free throws down the stretch. It was a fun game to see. Both sides getting after it. Both student sections getting after it. Great atmosphere.

Maybe you have just been looking at the wrong games? I have seen his names plenty of times with scores in the 30's and 40's. He had 40 something Vs Dixie about a month ago, the next night VS Pikeville he had a bunch, and in the 30's I believe Vs Beechwood. I know I've seen his name in the box scores after that at times scoring a bunch in those too.

MOUNT STERLING — George Rogers Clark was without one of its top players and it showed.The Cardinals (12-4) defeated the Indians 69-40 in the first meeting between the two teams on Dec. 10 at Norton Gymnasium and earned a regular-season sweep of the Indians. Clark also wrapped up the top seed for the 40th District Tournament. The Indians will be the No. 2 seed when the post season begins.

The Cardinals struggled with the absence of Rogers, especially in the opening half, but senior guard Robbie Stenzel picked up the slack and finished with 26 points. Stenzel connected on six shots of Clark’s seven field goals from long range, including five in the first half.Stenzel finished with 14 points in the first half.

 

Clark senior Vinny Zollo sat out the last four minutes of the third quarter because of foul trouble, but had a three-point play underneath and a putback to open the fourth frame, pushing Clark’s margin to 48-39 with 6:50 remaining.

 

Despite playing with foul trouble for most of the second half, Zollo finished with 16 points and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds, with six of those coming on the defensive end.

Prewitt and Handshoe are both fine ball players. They will just get better.

Not surprised by the score even with Corey this would have been a closer game than the first one. Montgomery is a big rival and those games aren't blowouts all that often. GRC was definitely out of sync without Corey but Robbie really picked it up and had a great shooting night. Barring upsets in the district we will do this one again in a few weeks. Does anyone know where the district will be held this year? Nice to meet you Golden Sunrise.

You're right, No matter what kind of year the two schools are having , playing at Montgomery Co is always a tough game and it would have been tough even if Rogers had been there. Montgomery has a well coached team.

I figured Prewitt's average was up there, just seems more quiet this year. What did the Handshoe kid average last year? is he a junior or senior? Thanks.
