I haven't seen HC. IMO if HC tries to run with them, the Bulldogs should prevail, teams that force Holmes into half court or are big cause them problems. #1 or 2 or 3 in the state Ballard ran with them and beat them by four. NewCath (protected the ball and forced them into half court plus used the big man during crunch time) and Moore (had no answer for their big man) had the formulas. I think rivalry adds to the game early, but as things settle the Indians will need to protect the ball and slow it down. Should be fun.

 

Holy Cross likes to get out and run this year and pressure defensively...don't expect this to be a slow down, half court game.

 

As for Moore and Newcath, they didn't beat Holmes because they slowed the ball down....they beat Holmes because they had a big man that Holmes couldn't match up with.

Good points Walter. I didn't see the Moore game and I was told by someone there that the big man was way too much. I was at the NewCath game and the big guy was too much especially in the 4th quarter, but I thought NewCath was patient, didn't turn the ball over much, and got the ball down in the low post when they needed points. IMO they didn't try to run with Holmes. Holmes, looked confused in their half court offense. They didn't take open shots and weren't hitting well when they did. No matter, if HC tries to run with the Bulldogs, it will lessen their chances. Interesting how different people see different things.

They certainly slowed the game down. The zone NCC played forced Holmes into a lot of perimeter non-penetrating passes and not a lot of good looks.

And despite that, Holmes still had a 6 pt lead with 2 minutes to play. Silly mental errors cost them that game. Not to mention atleast one foul where they gave Geisler an and one when he was clearly fouled on the floor as soon as he touched the ball. If my memory is correct, one of the refs of that game was a Newcath grad......take it FWIW. I like Holmes' chances against Newcath in round 2 at Holmes in a few weeks.

I think last game was the first time we used the same starting lineup in consecutive games. Add Allen and Avery and that is what it was last game. Pretty much the whole season has been a different lineup, but we consistently play at least 10 guys.

Here is Holy Cross' starting line up and key reserves:

Last I heard, Trey Lewis and Hunter Hoskins quit the team. Lewis saw about 5 mins a game but Hoskins didn't get in much.

I was sitting right in front of the play on the baseline, literally 10 feet away, and BOTH Newcath grads that were next to me agreed it was on the floor.

 

Again, that's not for this thread though. Those two will meet again in a few weeks and we can debate it in that thread.
