I have one MAJOR complaint with the officials calling that ball game. We took three legitimate charges in that game which were called blocks. We were in great defensive position, had our feet planted and the Campbell players were out of control in all three instances. The one "charge" that was called was closer to a block than a charge. We work way too hard to have our guys stand in and take those charges to have some gutless rookie officials either not know who has initiated the contact, finds it easier to call the block rather than to reward the charge, or simply don't have the intestinal fortitude to call the charge.

I'm going to simply write your diatribe off as "passion" for the Stangs vs the Camels. A couple of points though:

 

1. I wasn't there and I do not know who officiated the games but I can see from pictures that some varsity officials worked games in this tournament so it's not like they were all first year refs.

2. I don't get the part about "gutless." Why does it take guts to call a PC foul ? Are you somehow saying it's easier to just call a block? I can tell you that's not the case. Sometimes they're obvious . Sometimes they're extremely close ie 50/50. On those regardless of which way you go you're getting an earful from someone. It takes no more "guts" to call a PC than it does a block.

They work on it all right....They have to get that "ARGGGG", yell/scream, just right too or they will sit. I wonder if the officials get tired of that kind of stuff. The yelling and screaming stuff is obviously being taught. Perhaps they should teach them to get to their spot sooner. That, the screaming, sometimes stimulates the fans a bit too. Perhaps it is the screaming that is making it seem a bit closer....I am sure the officials were not out to get anybody. Sometimes you get the calls, sometimes you don't. There were likely things that could have been done differently/better that would have eliminated the need to harp on these "three" calls.

I'm going to take exception to the "no effort to get the call right" comment. You may not have liked the call. They call may have been incorrect each time. However, it's asinine to say they made no effort. It takes no more guts to call a PC than it does a block. It's that simple.

I was at the game. I would have to agree with Mustang. After the CC coach was riding the officials pretty hard, calls seem to go the Camels way.

BTW, Bishop Brossart beat Walton Verona and Newport Contral Catholic beat Simon Kenton. Both will play tomorrow night at 6:10 in the championship game. Walton Verona will play Simon Kenton will in the consolation game.

It is not being taught in our program, nor was it ever taught in our program since 1997. Before that, well, ...............................

Actually the freshmen who take the majority of the charges don't make a sound.

The varsity guys might interject a vocal accompaniment, as most do, but it is defintiely not taught. Our coaches talk about it and expect our players to stand in and take charges, but it is only even practiced one day during the pre-season.
