I think Connelly from CovCath meets all of the criteria as well. He is by far the best I have seen at running the fade. His leaping ability is 2nd to none.

 

Van Sant, Bovard, Connelly and Sutton, and pretty good legacy of WR's in the past 5 years at CovCath.

Peter Sutton was the most atheltically and physically gifted receiver of the bench.

 

Bovard and Jacobs were also very good as well for CCH.

 

I'd go with Sutton. Not only was he a standout on the gridiron, but he may have been even better on the hardwood. Scary to think what the Colonels could've been with him playing both sports.

Most underrated wide receiver in northern Kentucky this year continues to be Daniel Gold. Polls can be made to be deceiving. Gold had 7 TD receptions this year so doesn't make the cut in the criteria of this poll. Gold made key play after play in many games in Highlands road to the state championship. This is another example of why stats are sometimes worthless. Gold had over 900 yards receiving this year. He sat out from the middle of the 2nd quarter of the Beechwood game when the score got out of hand, sat out for Woodford County and Scott County games, and had 0 passes thrown to him during the Withrow game, yet still had 900 yards in catches, and many big plays. Leading your team to playing in week 15 is a pretty good stat.

 

That being said, Buten pretty much did the same thing.

The only stat that should be important to any Bluebird is the ring going on their finger for the 4th time. I do agree he had a very nice career at Highlands starting with his big catch in the 2008 State game. I hope he gets the opportunity to play at the next level.

You're right, it couldn't have been a better ending. Most people weren't around to see the the warm-ups before the game. The oppositions cheering section was really laying into Kurt hard before the game started. It was to the point that they were in his head, and he was dropping passes that he could have caught blind folded. I give Kurt all the credit in the world for overcoming that. He had another big time play minutes before his winning TD that really kept the Colonels alive as well.

 

The year after Kurt graduated, he attended the Cov. Cath. vs. Highlands basketball game in the 9th region tournament at Conner. The Highlands student section razzed and booed Kurt when he walked past (pretty good natured stuff). Kurt had a big smile and sat next to them. Kurt was money on the football field and on the basketball court. He gets my vote for best WR of the past 5 years.

Had the same question Clyde? Didn't TJ concentrate on hoops and foresake football? Both Sutton's were great football and basketball players, but neither ended up playing hoops beyond their sophomore seasons if I'm not mistaken?

 

Brett was an amazing athlete, and a dominant hoops player throughout elementary/middle school, but never really played much in HS for various reasons. Peter was very athletic as well and a big target in football, and could have been a very fine HS player in basketball as well. Always thought Brett could have been a great receiver, but spent more time as a DB I believe.

 

Bovard was an unbelievable WR, and made some spectacular plays. Played AAU hoops with Peter and several other fine area HS players for the NKY Rockets.

On the money Qryche. Polls are set up and can leave those deserving out. Maybe the criteria should be, a player whose team played in a minimum of 15 games the past 4 years, and has 4 rings, and/or has one 99 yard TD reception (Buten would make the poll). Gold didn't have the huge number in total yards because he was used as a team player. There were many games where HHS could have thrown to Gold until the final buzzer, but instead he was on the sideline. The HHS defense showed what WR and RB stats really mean against Johnson Central, Louisville Eastern, Harlan County, Christian County, and Beechwood to name a few. No team shut Gold down this entire year and he played against tough teams to get his catches and yards, and many of his catches were very meaningful in the playoffs.

 

I think he will get his opportunity.

Thanks for confirming regarding Todd. He would have been a very good footballer, had he chosen to play.

 

Agree on Sutton as a receiver--I thought he might have been used a little as a WR, but played primarily safety. Wasn't Brett a state ranked high jumper as well?
