Final 5A State Rankings

Featured Replies

Now that the season is complete who is your top 5 in 5A?

1. Highlands

2. Johnson Central

3A. Covington Catholic

3B. Dixie

3C. Harlan County

How about a team that could be ranked as high as 3 finishing 3rd in their district!

Sounds right to me

It's debatable that Dixie might have been better than Johnson Central, IMO.

I also think if Pike doesn't go down, Dixie beats Covcath. Just my opinion though.

To your latter point that's why I've got them at 3A B and C.

Just like Hrcarrier posted, "sounds right to me"...

A game between Dixie and JC would have been interesting, but I don't know how Dixie's defense would have done with containing Jude. I agree all the way with your point about Pike going down against Cov Cath, he is a stud at quarterback.

You are spot on Clyde.

Most people knew the State Championship would be decided by round 3 prior to the playoffs starting.

Come on, guys ... Christian County is a quality team that laid an egg. It certainly doesn't mean they they stink.

Bowling Green nearly beat Trinity this season. Christian County and Warren Central beat Bowling Green. You're going to tell that those teams aren't that good, just because of one 5A game out of hundreds this season?

I don't think that it was meant to be implied that Christian isn't good. I would say they are about equal with Harlan. Between all I have seen and heard during the regular season and postseason, I believe that JC is better than everyone except Highlands and that Dixie and Cov Cath are pretty even with Dixie being slightly better.

1. Highlands

2. Johnson Central

3. Dixie

4. Covington Cathlic

5. Christian County

On a side note, there is alot of talk on how Highlands will dominate the next three years. Their incoming freshman class looks very impressive. I do feel however that the next few classes a JC are the stongest classes that we have ever had and this last game between HHS and JC has motivated JC like no other. Huge numbers on the wrestling mat, weight lifting every day, and kids on the field with an inch of snow working on speed and pass coverage drills on their own. Highlands may be the best team in the state in 5a for years to come, but Johnsonville is still a buzz and it looks like they are working harder than ever rather than humping up (witch could have happened after a heart breaking loss). Really looking foward to this game for the next few years. I hope neither team stumbles before the third round of the playoffs.

Highlands will be 4A next year.

I agee, any 5A team that played HHS last night was going to look worse than they really are. CC is a good team who beat several other good teams on their way to the finals.

I know JC will be also just a typing error. My mistake.

Why not work on the pass routes also? JC was an excellent team again this year, but their lack of ability to strike quickly with the passing game doomed them. Harlan was similar. I have a ton of respect for the JC program, but how long do you stick with a philosophy that appears only good enough to get you to number 2?
