To me they looked like the best 3 A team in the state. On Saturday, that was good enough.

In Centrals' state title years, they've finished with the following records:

 

2007: 10-5 (Losses to 6A Manual, 6A Male, 6A St. Xavier, 5A Highlands, 5A Johnson Central)

 

2008: 11-3 (Losses to 6A Manual, 6A St. Xavier, 5A Highlands)

 

2010: 9-6 (Losses to 6A Seneca, 6A Ballard, 6A Male, 6A Manual, 6A St. Xavier, 6A PRP)

 

This year they started the season 1-5 and finished 4-6.

 

Is their tough out of district schedule the reason they're so good in the postseason? You learn a lot more from a loss than a win. Could this be why Central is so much better than the rest of the 3A competition? The tough losses that allow them to be coached up and ready for the playoffs?

 

Or is Central simply bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic, and more talented than everyone in 3A, regardless of their schedule?

 

Ill be politically incorrect here and point out the pink elephant in the room that few want to give credit too. Also, before the 6 Class System, Central had not won a State Championship. I'm not trying to be a downer here or take anything away from them (they aren't the only ones who are a product of the changes).

 

IF and this is a big IF, but in old 3A, they are fighting off Bowling Green, Owensboro, Christian County, Lexington Catholic, Boyle County (who beat them out in the early 2000's a couple times), Hopkinsville (the Hoptown before the last few seasons), etc. to just get to the finals. That's not counting having to fend off Highlands in the finals.

 

Again, they aren't the only ones, but your last statement is a very, very, very large part of their equation. Nonetheless, a dang good football team.

Credit what you will, or blame what you will - it really doesn't matter. Central is the best in 3A. Period.

 

How many 3A teams - even the top 10 ones - have beaten one 6A team over the past three years (much less one of the better 6A teams)? Central knocked off Male by 13 in 2008, Ballard and PRP in 2009, and Lafayette this year...

 

You have to give the kids credit where credit is due. It doesn't matter whether they are the best champion or the 6th-best...they won 3A convincingly. Congrats to the kids and Coach Scroggins.

I think you are "dead on." I did not see their title game on Sat. So, do not know how they conducted themselves. I do know of some instances this past season which really called their "sportsmanship" into question.

Are the posters here saying that 3A football is so bad, that a team with all the problems Central has listed in this thread can win in a blow out despit all said problems?

Playing better schools makes you a better team. I don't see how you can really argue against that.

Yes, that bad.

Probably a little of both, although their talent level (speed, athleticism, etc) is definitely above the vast majority of 3A schools.

 

I agree it is a little bit of both. Playing teams like they do does not always make you better, sometimes it can actually make you worse and breed a defeated attitude in your kids.
