Mustangs travel to Covington Monday night for a Division II showdown with the Dogs.

 

This will be the first time these two have met since the 2003 season when BB beat Holmes in overtime at Holmes.

 

Brossart comes in 2-0 with wins over St. Henry and Silver Grove.

 

This will be Holmes' first game under new head coach Jason Booher.

 

Thoughts?

Holmes has too much speed and athleticism for Brossart.

I think Holmes runs em out of the gym. No disrespect to the Stangs program but having their game cancelled last night and wanting to get a nice big win for Coach Booher, I would not want to be the Stangs on Tues night.

This is an interesting match up. I don't think it'll be as lopsided as you think Q.

 

Brossart, historically, likes to slow the game down and play tough hard nosed defense. Fardo, Norton, and Saunders all three have experience and should be able to match up with Holmes.

 

Holmes, on the other hand, will try to get out and run and pressure the BB guards with athleticism, quickness, and depth.

 

I know BB lost a lot from last year, but they return 6'8 Jennings and 6'6 Trentman so they should have the size advantage down low.

 

At the end of the day, I don't think Brossart has anyone that can match up with Chris Hayes and I see him being the difference. He went off for 30 against Tamron Manning and Scott Co a few weeks ago, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 20's for this one as well.

 

I'll take Holmes for the simple fact that I think they have more athleticism and depth.

We're quite small, malnourished, and rather timid.

We play a lot of zone, but will press you after made baskets and at every opportunity.

Our offensive philosophy is "Shoot It Before You Lose It" - so we like to run up and down the court and fire it up at every opportunity.

I'd look for it to be a very high scoring game.

I have been a fan of Brossart and Coach Code since moving to Maysville in 2006. Play hard, play a team game, discipline, defense, just fun to watch those kids play.

 

I would expect Holmes to win, but I really doubt it will be a 30 point blowout. I would say maybe 10-15, possessions in the game will be limited and as long as the Mustangs don't turn the ball over and give up easy points, it will be a somewhat close game just based on the style they play.

This surprises me. :confused: It seems like traditionally the Mustangs of the past played a half court offensive game with an intense defensive attack that typically resulted in low scoring affairs. Oh... nevermind... I see now that you are kidding. :lol:
