I agree. It would probably be worse b/c OC's QB is better than Beechwood's. That was about as bad of a first half, and as flat as a team as I have seen. However, that game was needed, and a nice slap in the face. You could see in the second half the real NewCath team, and they stormed back. They have been very focused since. The only thing that would worry me would be if they became too amped. That happened last time against Ft. Campbell and I believe that they wound up w/ 15 false starts, many of which made 3rd and short, 3rd and long and killed drives. Chris Kelly will have his team ready to play. If OC wins, they will have earned it.

It's like deja-vu reading this thread and reading how (insert team here) has little chance of beating NCC. The board was heavily skewed toward NCC both years they played Fort Campbell. And Fort Campbell won both times.

 

I never expect to come on here and see a NKY poster pick against the "hometown" team. And NCC may very well win Friday. But I'm taking the Aces based on their quick-strike capability on offense and because they are one of the few 2A teams who can match the depth of NCC.

Mex I have read on here this year that this NCC team might be one of their best ever. IMO the team from 2005 which beat the crap out of Mayfield was a special team and a lot better.

Nah, Ft. Campbell won in 2007 b/c they took advantage of NewCath meltdowns on the goalline. That is earning it, b/c championship teams make plays. In 2008, they won the game 2xs. The first time was called back for illegal procedure and the second was when Andrews remembered that he was Mike Vick-lite and made an unbelievable individual play on the throw back. Both times they earned it and took it from NewCath. Both games NewCath hurt themselves w/ penalties. You can't do that and expect to win. Ft. Campbell, to their credit, made the plays to win.

The 2005 team had a lot more speed, and were hitting on all cylinders offensively like this years OC, with Diehl throwing the ball all over the field. That team also lost to CovCath by about 40 earlier in the year and gave away a game to Beechwood in the regular season finale. This year doesn't have Kiernan or Smith on the line, or Cannafax and Bueter catching passes. They do, however, have a very, very good OLine, better than the '05 team. This team is much more physical than '05. They can't quite score from anywhere like the '05 team, but they can control the game a lot better, if that makes sense.

There will be some surprises when O-Cath shows up at WKU, make no mistake about it! I was personally shocked at how good O-Cath was in hammering FC 34-0 this season. That is after getting spanked by FC 53-0 last season - an 87 point difference. O-Cath will score at will, no doubt about it. Can they stop NCC, may be the question.

 

NCC has a little bit of recent history of rolling into the 2A title game with a lot of NKY hype, only to return home with the thanks for coming trophy.

One thing you forgot to mention. Fort Campbell graduated 15 starters. The team you beat this year was not the same team as last year.

There isn't a team in the state, and possibly country that would put 75 up on Newcath. Wishful thinking.

If they did, you could be right, but I don't see it happening. NCC has played much better during the playoffs and I believe that the loss to Beechwood was a big reality check. One of the playoff games that indicated this most was how easy they made it look against Covington Holy Cross, and I expected that to be a fairly close game. I'm still uncertain about who will win this one, but I do believe that this will likely be the closest title game along with Belfry and Central.

I agree with you from what I've seen of them this season, especially about the offensive line and being more physical.

I saw the NewCath vs CovCath game earlier in the yr and was very impressed with the way the big guys move for NewCath. They have great leadership and have played a very tough schedule this yr which will pay dividends on Friday. Besides, I always root for NewCath anytime they play the other Catholics. LOL.
