Why should parents not have a say in the coaching staff selection? If a coach is not getting the most from the talent on the team, the coach should be held accountable. High school soccer is not for teaching soccer to players, it is for developing a team of soccer players into a unit that advances as far as possible towards the goal of a State Championship. If that means some players sit the bench because they are not as skilled as the starting or second string players, so be it. If those players are unhappy with their limited playing time, perhaps they should seek other extra curricular activities for which they are better suited. Can you imagine a football coach giving equal playing time to the 4th string quarterback just because he was on the team and tried hard at practice? How quickly would they be gone?

 

Parents should have no say in who the coach is or who plays in the game. The coach determines who they feel is the best kid for the position, not a disgruntled parent!

Players who the coach feels deserve playing time should get it, and parents of the kids on the pine should keep their mouths shut.

"Coaches decision" is the best answer for the common cry "How come little Sally didn't play last night"

Coach Bray did a fine job and he is a loss to the program.

The answer here is to get rid of the AD, he turns his back and refuses to back the coaches. He lets the parents get away with murder. In the last five years, how many different coaches at BBHS, were let go, or left on their own? Anyone in their right mind would turn a job down there.

 

Parents think that their kids are great in thier sports, when in all reality, the truth hurts. How many student athletes are really going to be able to compete at the next level? Sports for the most part are an importan partt of development in the future lives of young men and women.

If a coach decides to give equal playing time and sacrifices being able to compete at a decent level to do so, he should go coach rec soccer. It is not fair to the better players, that have worked for years to develop their games, to have to be handicapped by a coach that wants to give everyone equal playing time.

Kevin would have been the best choice. He did not behave unprofessionally. He was upset because he did not get the job, so were a lot of parents. He should have gotten the job and they made the wrong choice. He was committed to this team, the school and this community. He is an excellent coach. Everyone is talking about playing time, it is not all about playing time. There were girls that played all the time and parents were not happy with the coaching staff. How do you know the record would not have been any better, I do not think we will ever know that..... Kevin does not have to consult the previous coach because he does not need too and if he would, that coach knows a lot about soccer too. At this point whats done is done, I just hope they put the right person in this position.

Well, I am not close to the situation here but reading the posts, it sounds like Bray was put into the meat grinder. It appears a lot of people wanted Kevin to get the job and when he didn't, Kevin and his supporters did not take it well. That is a bad situation for a new coach to walk into and if there isn't a strong AD to make things right ...

 

Based on all I have read here, I am not surprised Bray decided to leave. Also based on what I am reading here, if Kevin gets the job now it will be an indictment of the AD.

If the complaints about playing time were from the lesser skilled players and if people want all the kids to get equal playing time, I would say that Kevin is the right man for the job. If, however, the complaints were coming from the parents of the skilled players, because those kids were on the bench instead of on the field, their plights would not be helped by hiring him. Kevin is a very good trainer and will do a great job teaching kids how to play the game, (Again, in my opinion, learning to play is not what high school soccer is for) but he is a firm believer in spreading the playing time equally amongst all the players regardless of their level of skill. So if winning is a priority at Brossart, they had better cast a wider net when searching for that new coach.

Left they were forced out. You know who they are. Think hard, I am sure that will come to you. THe AD has no control, he lets the parents run the Athletic Department, he is their puppet.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I know that there is always complaining, etc. amoungst the parents in some boys sports there also but maybe they have learned to keep their mouths shut; Or they don't go running to the AD everytime something happens they don't like or maybe they are just ignored by the AD.

I have to disagree that all of the good players do not play year round. They are kids that play year around and should not even take the field at all. I will take anyone's money if they want their child to play select.

Read it again. I never said all players that play select are the best players. But in my opinion all of the best select players play year round, and all of the best high school players are also the top select players. If you disagree, can you name a rec level player that is one of the areas best high school players? And I don't mean the best player at a particular school, I mean one of the best high school players in Northern Kentucky.
