Well...I think we've solved it. It's now obvious that we're all racists. I see two clear options...

 

1. The race cards needs to be put away forever.

2. We all get a race card to use whenever we want. Race cards can be used by all races equally...gone are the days when only select groups can use a race card.

Well duh, everyone is racist in their own way by definition. At this point, in the year 2010, I would think that everyone would accept that by now and quit crying and moaning about it and stop blaming every decision made on race this and race that.

 

Or at least accept it and understand it since they themselves are racist...I mean, how can you get mad or criticize someone for racism when you yourself are a racist. They're hypocrites.

Race has nothing to do with this, how many times when Emmit Smith was playing did you see him get a late hit call or something on him near the sidelines that could have went either way, same way with Jerry Rice and some other star african american players.

It's simple, whenever you see a person, whether male or female, black or white, skinny or fat, etc., etc., your subconscious is taking all those things into account and formulating preconceptions about that person. Everyone judges a person they just meet or see for the first time, regardless of how much we try not to. It's done without us realizing it.

 

The best example I can think of is you see a girl walking down the street and find her attractive...How did you come to that conclusion? Your subconscious taking into account a whole slew of factors....

I absolutely get what you're saying. But, in instances like this, when people say "race is a factor" they don't mean it in the Clyde sense. They are implying that race is a significant, conscious factor. So, if we want to have a philosophical discussion about the subconscious, that's fine. I don't think it's applicable here, because I don't think that's what these guys are getting at when they say race is a factor. I don't think that's what Lebron and his handlers were getting at either.

 

And, I'll be honest, the reporters are just as bad, if not worse. They're often the ones that bring it up...and, in this and the Lebron case, the reporter is the one who brought it up. They simply responded. So, I'm just tired of it being brought up in every case whether warranted or not.

It's naive/ignorant/foolish to think that race doesn't factor into any opinions. We all have conscious or subconscious factors that help us form an opinion or come up with a reaction. Race is one of them. Socioeconomic factors . Personal experience. Lack of education.

 

So the question isn't "does race play a part." The question is "what portion of our reaction is influenced by race?" We THINK we know fully how we came up with an opinion but, in reality, we really don't know to the 100% level.

So the fact that I had no problem with Haynesworth before all this means what? But now I don't like him because he is a whiny baby making a 100 Mil and it's race that is a factor? I get the scientific part of this you guys are getting at but this isn't the first time anyone formed an opinion on this guy.

A lot of these close minded answers are why we will never advance far in race relations in this country. Things are better than when my parents were younger but in general a lot of you will never fully understand. Clyde's explanation is on point and pretty simple to follow. It is what it is and I am weary of trying to explain it.

And that's where you lost. They aren't saying it's racially motivated they are saying race is a factor. I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt. You all are the most socially conscious people alive. Too bad a large majority of our country isn't like you guys.
