Side bar question: is Manual able to accept students from throughout Jeff Co. (assuming they satisfy some testing or other requirements)?

 

All of Jefferson County is now open enrollment. Not just Manual or Male. It does point out the differences between metro schools with a large population base and schools that are defined by geo-political boundries.

Who ever said that it's the obligation of the state to get the two best teams to the finals? It rarely happens and losing in the state finals does not mean that you are the second best team in the state despite what SK and Ryle fans might have you believe.

 

It's not the state's obligation to get the two best teams in the finals. If they're that good, perhaps we should just eliminate the playoffs and let the KHSAA, in all their wisdom, pluck the top two teams from each class out for a championship game each year.

Why should the KHSAA consider whether X and T make the finals at all? They clearly did when they drew up these districts.

I just want to see a competitive 6A game. I get tired of watching X and T blow someone out every other year...

I agree. That being said, more than one team out of the same city should not come out of the region, let alone the sectionals.

Not sure what they were thinking, nor do I care. I'm just commenting generally that the KHSAA can't be in the business of trying to align brackets to get what everyone thinks will be the two best teams in the finals. What they should do is try to set up a system where the best teams have a chance to compete for a championship. I think they've done that. It makes no difference to me when the best teams meet. Breathitt County has won 3 state championships, and in IMO, they played their toughest opponent in the state semi-finals every time.

 

It is what it is. Trinity and Xavier still have the same opportunity to win championships. Ultimately, that's all I want to see.

Since the move to six classes, there have been 18 state title games played. Eight of the 18 champions played a closer game in the semifinals than in the finals. Eight played a closer game in the finals. Two had the same margin in the SFs and title game.

 

Last year, four of the six classes (including St. X in 6A), played a tougher game in the semifinals than the finals. It's pretty common. It's not like 6A is the only class that has blowouts in the title game.

I see where this is going, and in that case why not have the cojones to propose the public-private split? Why is Lex Cath or NCC or Holy Cross treated any differently than Manual or Trinity?

 

Okay, you saw where "this is going" but I don't if you think I'm proposing a public private split. Explain.

In regards to the matter of having the best two teams in the finals, I know that for a lot of years the winner of the Highlands-CovCath playoff game went on to win state, and the playoff game was viewed as the de facto title game by more than a few... and HHS and CCH were in the same district.

Yes, Jefferson County is open enrollment, and has great Magnet programs.

I know an ex-Male football player who left Male his Junior year and transferred to Shawnee so that he could get his pilots license. He played football and basketball @ Shawnee his junior and senior year. The "like program" argument is, though, still a valid one from a different perspective. Obviously, Trinity and X are private schools with all that entails. Male is the Traditional choice, meaning strict codes of counduct, etc, etc, etc. Manual is "the" academic choice (as well as the performing arts choice, which I really don't think impacts the football argument). Of all the schools in Jefferson County, including X & T, Manual is by far the hardest to get into IMO, and has no "resides" area.

Doesnt St X and Trinity have more show up for the regualr season game last year than did the state championship game?
