September 28, 201016 yr The Bears are now 3-0 with a win over the Pack. But, that's not really what I wanted to talk about. I must say that Aaron Rodgers has officially become my new favorite player to watch in the NFL. There were a few great plays and throws in that game last night... Rodgers to Jermichael Finley down the seam was one of the best throws I've seen. Also, the TD passes (Rodgers to Jennings and Cutler to Olsen) were on the money. And, finally, the catch that Devin Hester made out of the back of the end zone...how on earth did he catch that ball? There's nothing more entertaining in the NFL than watching the elite QB's. That's why, unless the Titans are on, the games at the top of my list are Green Bay, Indianapolis, New England and New Orleans.
September 28, 201016 yr Entertaining game. Everyone got to see Murray High alum Tim Masthay punting (and holding for kicks) for the Packers including a nice whiff in trying to tackle Devin Hester. Whew. Avoided an 0-3 start in my fantasy league if Rodgers throws for another 8 yards. Way to mismanage the game at the end Green Bay. Who would have thought at the beginning of the season the last three unbeaten teams at 3-0 would be Chicago, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh. Such is life in the NFL.
September 28, 201016 yr Both these teams look pretty good to me, especially if they can fix their weaknesses. Green Bay is the most penalized team in the league, and the amount they got would have been a pathetic number for a middle school team, let alone an NFL team. With Chicago you always have to worry about Jay Cutler. He has to get an interception, he needs to throw an interception, he lives to throw the interception. I feel that he's going to be like Favre and always throw one at the worst possible times. GB penalties took him out of two should be costly INTs last night.

I believe Masthay also made a great tackle on Hester on a punt prior to the TD return.

The late INT was an ill-advised throw, IMO, but Bennett might have prevented the pick if he hadn't been held. Cutler looks pretty good, but he still makes a few head scratching throws in every game. Rodgers, on the other hand, never seems to get impatient. He eats the defense up by taking what is there, similar to Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. Rodgers is as good as it gets in the NFL right now, IMO. The running game might be the Packers downfall if they can't get it going.

Rodgers is like Peyton in the fact that he's more comfortable in the shotgun, calling plays at the line IMO. He seems like he's the next really good QB.
September 28, 201016 yr Cutler was bailed out a number of times on penalties. His line would have looked a little bit different if some of those went the other way.
September 28, 201016 yr As a Chicago fan, I'm happy with the win, they are just finding ways to pull these things out. The secondary and offensive line were big questions coming into the season and that hasn't changed even with 3 wins. Very much a bend, but don't break defense. I believe the Bears were 3-1 last year going into a showdown game against Atlanta, they lost a heartbreaker there and then looked like a Division 3 Junior College team against Cincinnati the next week. Wouldn't shock me if they lost next week to the Giants, but their schedule lightens up a little bit after that and they have a good chance to go into the bye week 6-2 or 7-1.
September 28, 201016 yr Masthay did a great job last night. He was booming some punts. Except for one little detail....He kicked right to the best punt return man in NFL history.
September 28, 201016 yr After losing Grant, it seems the Packer are content with their running back rotation. I kind of think they might want to look to pick someone else up, if there are any available. The penalties really killed them.
September 28, 201016 yr I think the Bears are a playoff team, but not convinced that they're better than the Pack even after beating them.
September 28, 201016 yr Author I think the Bears are a playoff team, but not convinced that they're better than the Pack even after beating them. Green Bay's season will be a disappointment if they don't win their division. They should be the best team in the NFC North, and like you, I still think they are despite a loss to Chicago. I did have one point to make and I just remembered it. Last night, with about 1:30 left, the Bears had a First and Goal and the Packers had one TO remaining. I immediately thought their best chance to win was to let Chicago score and hope they could answer with the time remaining and the timeout. Instead, they let the Bears run it down to the one, run the clock down to 8 seconds, and then kick the shortest possible FG in the NFL to win the game. Why, in that situation, do you not let them score and give a guy like Aaron Rodgers some time to try to answer? The odds of that happening are much better than something going wrong on the FG. Especially when you consider how NFL defenses tend to get real soft in situations like that. I fully believe had GB allowed the score, at the least, Rodgers could have got them down to the 25 yard line to take a shot or two at the end zone. I don't understand the reluctance to play the odds in that situation.
September 28, 201016 yr Except for one little detail....He kicked right to the best punt return man in NFL history. To be fair, he forced him to backpedal enough to where his coverage should've had plenty of time to contain Hester. I can't blame that on Masthay.

His worst punt of the night was by far the line drive straight to Hester where he made a great open field tackle to prevent a TD return. The TD return was more of a great play by Hester, IMO. Masthay had a couple of monster punts.
