Ballard not ready for prime time?

Featured Replies

The Bruins were within one play of beating X but tonight they fell to a middle of the road Male team. Was the X game an aberration or is Male better than we think?

Or are all three teams pretty close?

Well, Male was tied with St. X with something like 20 seconds to play. Given how close the St. X-Ballard, Male-Ballard and St. X-Male games all have been, perhaps St. X is a tad better than Male, who is in turn just a tad better than Ballard, and all three are solid teams this year.

Both Male and Ballard are good. I suspect they are both ready for prime time.

Or could they both be middle of the road along with X?

I define prime time as being one of the top teams in your class. I think they are both are in the top 5 of 6A and the top 10 overall. How they stack up historically may be open to debate.

They almost have to be top five by default. Ryle sure didn't impress tonight and most of 6A looks pretty weak.

In actuality, what classes are strong this year? By no means am I an expert, but with the possible exception of 1A, aren't they all a bit subpar this year? (This comment might engender some response.)

Teams with a legit shot at winning it all, imo:

1a - Mayfield, Holy Cross, Hazard

2a - NCC, Monroe Co, Murray, PBurg

3a - Central, Tilghman, Somerset

4a - Bell Co, Boyle Co, Lone Oak

5a - Highlands, BGreen

6a - Trinity, St X, Male, Ballard

If Ballard is going to be a "prime time" player in 6A, they must not make so many mistakes in big games (2 lost fumbles and 2 interceptions vs Male). This has been an age old problem for Ballard football.

Male a middle of the road team? I don't think so. They have proven that on the field.

Chris Wolfe- doing a great job at Male! Mike jackson equally impressive at Ballard. Both are fine coaches and it sounds like two pretty even teams put on a show.

St. X beat both Male and Ballard without LaMont McMurray. His presence definitely elevates the X offense. His first rush Friday night was a 50 yard TD. He had 189 yards rushing at halftime. His presence will open up their entire offense as he will also be used as a receiver out of the backfield. They also have the possibility of playing Daylen Hall and Devontae Beach in the backfield together with McMurry now. Totally differnet team than they have shown so far. Thre All State senior candidates . Beach has the potential to be a D-1 fullback along the likes of Joe Tronzo and John Connor. Everyone has witnessed Daylen's speed.
