September 22, 201016 yr Is anyone else going to be attending any of the WEG events? I am going to the reining on Sunday. Thank goodness for my wife and her job! She got us tickets to the event and passes into the Maker's Mark Pavilion!
September 22, 201016 yr I don't much about it, but I know hotels in Lexington are crazy during that time!
September 22, 201016 yr Author I don't know much about it either, but I still think it might be a good time (especially when it's free!)
September 27, 201016 yr Author Got to go to the reining event today. Pretty cool stuff. More like the rodeo than a horse show. Loud music, whistling and good entertainment. I knew nothing about it but it was fun. Also got to go to the Maker's Mark Bourbon Village. All I can say about it is WOW. Gourmet breakfast and lunch, free drinks and plenty of space. If you can find a ticket into this don't turn it down. Face value on it was $650!!
September 27, 201016 yr My daughter went to the reining and some demonstrations. Free today to Georgetown (and maybe other, I don't know) students provided they traveled on a school van. She enjoyed it.
September 27, 201016 yr Had dinner tonight with one of the stewards. She told me that the Europeans are really hacked off at the whole event and that it is very disorganized. The expense of the whole thing just amazes me.
September 27, 201016 yr I was just getting ready to start a thread about the WEG and how much of a waste of our taxpayer dollars it is. I find it very hard to believe we're going to recapture enough European dollars to make up for the cost to us. Most Kentuckians understand the fact that horses are for racing, not prancing around like silly ballerinas. That's why ticket sales have been incredibly slow.

September 27, 201016 yr I think it is a cool thing for Kentucky, however, I would rather go to Keenland and watch horses. All I know it that the weekend that the Equestrian thing is going on and Keenland and the UK vs. Auburn game is going to be a nightmare. With the boys in Danville, I'm looking for alternative routes for them to get home on weekends for hunting at the farm. Could be interesting.

September 27, 201016 yr Send them straight up U.S. 127 through Frankfort to Warsaw, get on I-71 north and they'll be home with ease! I was thinking of that, but one they get to Frankfort would they be better to get on 64 to Louisville and up 71, or 64 back to 75 and then north?

I think they'd be good either way, but I'd stick with either 127 the whole way or heading toward I-75. Going to Louisville would seem to be out of the way, plus getting from 64 to 71 in Louisville isn't very quick (and there's construction right now).
