Could someone tell me what Highlands' artificial turf is called? I'm pretty sure it has some sort of brand name.

Its official name is Fieldturf. A group of very crazy and bold volunteers took on the task of self performing the transformation from grass to Fieldturf. The project was a massive undertaking due to logistics and the fact that the field is landlocked. With the help of a major local excavating firm and alot of local businessmen and well educated construction engineers this project still holds the All Time Record of a "retrofit" . The normal install time for this type of field is 6 to 8 weeks and I can proudly say that the Bluebird nation pulled it off in 3 1/2 weeks. Fieldturf even cofirms the record. Would anyone expect anything less from the Highlands Football Family. Go Birds 20n10

The community effort was indeed incredible. It wasnt just Football junkies, it was both men and women of the community that had common interests. You are right on, it was alot of fun pullin those 18 hr days for the last 2 wks. Lots of fun went on during those late nights and one (Dads and Moms and others) had better checked their pride and diginity at the gate if they were worried about being called out or embarassed during any given night. Tough crowd, but loved every minute of it. Lots of memories.

In another thread someone asked about traditions that teams go through, and mention was made of HHS players wearing their FTJFL jerseys on Thursdays and tapping the Red Dog sign on the way out to the field at game time. Also, it seems that HHS players now shave their heads into mohawks during the week leading up to the state title game. What other current football traditions or routines exist at Highlands (and we're talking about things that are appropriate to be included on a public website)?

Going back to the 60's , the players were not allowed in cars and they rode their bikes everywere. I think Dale still does. Also, an old tradition that they don't do but I always loved was the cheerleaders on Thursday night would go to each players house, sing a cheer, give the player a kiss, and a small box of Wheaties with a poem on it. Love it. Classic.
