Thoughts on the Holmes Bulldogs

Featured Replies

After a close victory over Cooper are the Bulldogs still considered a legit 4A title contender? They are ranked #4 in 4A. Do they deserve that ranking? Has Cooper come that far that quick? How are those Dogs going to finish?

Cooper played Holmes tough last year as well so I wouldn't think too much of the score from last night. As Ryan Ernst said, both teams have progressed and gotten better since last year.

I don't see too many teams in 4A being able to hang with Holmes' speed on both sides of the ball.

At worse, they finish the season 8-2 with losses to Dixie and Withrow, but I really like their chances against Dixie this year. They commited a lot of unforced errors against the Colonels last year, largely in part to their youth and inexperience.

When you have a 6'4 D1 receiver out wide that's pretty much automatic and other guys like Clemons, Oden, and Jenson out of the back field, anything is possible for this team. They are only going to get better as the season progresses.

I see another district championship and wouldn't be surprised if they knock off Lexcath in the second round to meet up with Boyle Co in the region championship.

Either way, should be a fun ride for the Bulldog faithful.

This is the same Holmes team that SK beat 69 to 14 in a scrimmage!

I'm in the bag for the Dogs and I'm a big fan of Coach Lickert's ability to resurrect the program. They consistently improve.

Can they win 4A? Hard to tell. Very soft schedule so we really don't have a clue as to their abilities. The Cooper game tells me they've still got a way to go in order to be labeled a 4A contender.

They're getting there.

And it is the same Holmes team that would beat New Richmond.

Key word...SCRIMMAGE.

This is also the same Holmes team that had a SOPHOMORE receiver rack up over 100 yards out wide in ONE HALF against your Neers. Would love to see what he'd do in a full game.

You also failed to mention the final was 69-21 and that the score is combined scores of the JV and Varsity. Nice try though.

S-C-R-I-M-M-A-G-E They mean absolutely nothing.

Come on, the way things are looking the scrimmages might be the highlight of UK#1fan's fall.

What does a scrimmage against SK have to do with anything? Lets talk about the teams in 4a that they will face I've seen some pretty soft schedules for those teams.

I believe Holmes is a paper tiger in a watered down 6 classification system. I would like for them to prove me wrong, but don't see it.

They can't help the 6 classes, but aside from that I believe that they're a top 10 team in 4A, and probably top 5. Good athletes, good coaching and a relatively mundane class means they could make some noise in the playoffs. Next year it will be back to the grind of a Highlands/CovCath district, but hopefully all the work they've done will keep them from getting discouraged. This is the best Holmes has looked since back in the 90's.

They will loose alot of key players next year with lots of experience how will that affect them? Odom Jensen, Courtney Sheffield, Poe Marshall, and Simpson. That's a qb, 2 rb, center, lb, and linemen I would of rather seen them playing Highlands and Covington Catholic this year.

I agree with this statement. Although Coach Lickert has done a great job, and again Peterson is a star!!

Here's an interview that Ryan Ernst did with Coach Lickert.
