South Laurel at Henry Clay

Featured Replies

Whitley has played both and to honest Whitley whipped SL everywhere but the score board. Now I know that is where it counts and my hats off to South Laurel for that game and winning to get to this game, and I certainly would love to see them win........

BUT..........

Henry Clay is good, No they are better than good. Their noseguard is the best player defensive I have seen all year, he has speed strength and plays really smart. He makes plays all over. Their secondary FLYS to the football and when they do make a mistake defensively, they have the speed to correct it. They are big, fast and well coached. Offensively they are fast and have all kinds of weapons. #27 can run the rock, and he can catch. #7 is fast and runs solid routes and can move with the ball after the catch. Plus Simpson is one cool customer, he stood in and took some hits from Whitley and still completed the pass. He can throw on the run and he can run it.

To win SL will have to go vertical and get some yards, but I don't see that happening. Seriously Whitley held them to under 100 yards passing, but just made mistakes selling out to stop the pass and forgot the run. Henry Clay won't make that same mistake becuase they have enough athletes to stop both.

Henry Clay wins by a comfortable margin, and they may be what ever they want it to be..........

SL is playing their best ball of the season right now. SL was very shorthanded against Whitley and it showed. With Proffitt back and Marcum at full speed, they will be tough to stop. There have only been two games this season when all of SL's starters played - Johnson Central and Lincoln Co. - both big wins and high offensive outputs. HC is very good, but SL will be very tough to beat this week. SL matches up much better with HC - if WC could have thrown the ball better, they would have scored in the 20s.

Whitley had one TD called back on a questionable "illegal lineman down field" and one just purely dropped, which would have given them three TDs. I don't disagree with what you are saying but Henry Clay just has more athletes. I certainly hope that the Cardinals win, but is would be a Huge upset in my opinion.

I agree it would be an upset, but I believe the Cards are capable of it.

Henry Clay will pull away in the second half.SL will play well but it want be enou

Hopefully South Laurel will pull off the upset!

I always root for the underdog but South Laurel is too much of a dog in this one. However I was wrong last week and hopefuly I will be wrong this week too.

Remember, Lafayette beat Henry Clay with the short passing game very similar to that of..............South Laurel. Both teams run the Tony Franklin system, but Henry Clay has tweeked it with the running game of the old Delaware Wing-T. South Laurel seems to be very committed to every facet of the Hal Mumme offense. A very interesting November playoff match up. Looking forward to seeing this game! As far as a prediction, I'll take a three year starter, senior quarterback over a promising freshman quarterback at playoff time.

I disagree with you when you say Whitley whipped South in every way during the two teams' game. Matter of fact, South's oline controlled the game and even coach Campbell told me his team was fatigued. The Red Storm played a good game, BUT South was without many, many, and many weapons.

A few key points I'm looking for:

Can South duplicate their home performance from the last two Fridays on the road, where they have struggled at times?

Henry Clay is a fast, talented and deep team that put together a monster performance against Whitley. How does South deal with that?

What kind of boost will HC get from finally getting to play at home -- it had to help next week.

How does HC deal with Marcum? How does SL deal with Simpson?

Was HC's loss to Lafayette a fluke? South is riding high on confidence, and feel like if they can beat Lafayette, there's no reason they can't beat Henry Clay.

Anything else I'm missing?

How does SL deal with Simpson?

More like how does SL deal with Johnson. Simpson is just good because Rod Johnson is unreal. If youve ever been to a HC game youd know that Johnson does it all when he runs because HCs O-line is horrible. and talk about HC nose guard being underrated, just watch him one game and youll see he drives the center back every play.

Henry Clay is my 4-A state runner up.

Hmmmmm...interesting.

Whitley held them to 85 yards passing and their lowest total offensive output of the year.....But it really has no bearing on this game.

I was impressed with SL. But Henry Clay has a excellant team and does things that SL can't stop. I have seen this first hand.

Seriously, SL had a hard time with Rider.....Johnson is just like Rider except bigger faster and stronger. Simpson is big fast and strong, and can throw the ball. #55 Could be the best defensive player in 4A....HE IS A PLAYER!!! Just too many weapons for HC.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on how Lafayette's defeat of Henry Clay and South Laurel's subsequent whipping of the Generals mesh with your analysis.

Whoa buddy, u better refraise that about the o-line.

South will WIN!

No les. South will play better if you go with HC. Don't let us down les.
