Boyle Co. 35-7.

In my initial post, where I said I would pick Corbin last year, it would be because I was more confident in them to feel like they had a shot. Boyle would have definitely been favored but my loyalty would have given The Hounds the benefit of the doubt. Watkins would have given the Rebels fits. However, I know it takes 11 guys to win a game. This year, as bad as I hate to say it, I just don't see Corbin having much of a chance.

That works for me and I respect your loyalty. I'd always pick the Rebels also so I understand completely. Good luck.

I respect that just as Purple said. However I don't think Watkins would have fared any better than the Davenport kid from Bell County.

Really? We were way better last year. I know you had the stud running back last year but that Boyle team was a whole different animal. I am interested in knowing why you'd pick Corbin last year. Just blind loyalty maybe? I watched Corbin play Danville last year and I just don't see it but you may have some info I am not aware of. Do tell.

 

This year, if Corbin has any kind of passing game they can score around 20 points. How is Corbin's defense? I expect our offense to put up around 35+ points on Saturday. I'd love to see our defense shut them out and I believe a year ago this weekend our defense recorded it's first shutout of the season. I'd love to see history repeat itself but I think Corbin will put at least a td or two on the board.

 

Corbin's passing game looked suspect last week. The WR's are very inexperienced and dropped a couple of TD's, the protection broke down too often and the QB's didn't handle the pressure real well IMO. Corbin's special teams play was very good last week and need to make some big plays there, plus get the ball to Taylor out in space and they could make it interesting for a while. Corbin needs to win the TO battle as well.

 

The Redhound defense is small, but they fly around and swarm the ball pretty well.

I think Boyle is just too much for the young hounds. But, I think they will score more than everyone is saying. Boyle 54-28.

I agree with this 100%. Watkins would have not gave Boyle County any fits and Corbin would not have stayed close. I'm not trying to hurt any feelings. I'm a realist. However, Watkins was a very talented running back and it was an honor to seem him play. I wish Boyle County could have played Corbin last year.

 

Game time is getting closer. I can't wait!

That was one of the coldest football games I've been at. (albeit I was watching from the sidelines as a freshman.) Boyle that year was the toughest bunch of guys who had little talent but big hearts. We had upset Chris Jones and Danville in the finale just to have the points needed to win the District and qualify to play Corbin in the Regionals.

 

Boyle fell behind early but caught a big break just before half when Russ Wolfe (QB) ran the ball about 70 yards for a TD to make it 21-15 at the half. 2nd Half Boyle got the ball in good field position, had a couple of First Downs into Hound territory when a big Tackle for the Hounds literally ripped the ball out of Brian Rousey's hands (RB) and rambled the other way. Corbin took it in to go ahead by 2 TD's and dominated the rest of the game.

 

Rebel, do you remember that Steve Bird (EKU great) was a HB for that Corbin squad? They were one of the strongest High School teams I've ever seen. Lost in the finals to Mayfield by a point.

 

 

That '82 game was a huge disappointment for Rebel Nation. Boyle actually went into that game a Litkenhouse favorite. Rebels beat Somerset to get there (who had handled the Hounds in a regular season matchup). Corbin peaked at the right time that season and just owned the line of scrimmage. The Hounds must have converted 6 3rd and/or 4th Down plays in that game. They went on to win the State Title in Louisville. :thumb:
