St. Xavier 35 Ballard 34

Jim, Mattingly was the starter and played very well. Brohm I believe was given a series or two in each half. Two of his three imcompletions were screen passes to Daylen Hall, one was too low and the other too high.

Thanks. Appears to have been quite the battle. Thanks again for the analysis.

I don't remember an X defense giving up 28 points to anyone in the 4th. Ballard is showing that they may be for real. Disapointed with the cramping. That's conditioning. A good win for the Tigers. Coach Glaser usually doesn't get the full offense in for about 4 to 5 weeks. A good showing for the Bruins.

Huh? Cramping = Conditioning?

Both teams were cramping. It was a very long game 3+ hours in total.

Brohm also threw a pick. Mattingly should start and Brohm should move to FB or TE.

Are you saying that qb is not his best position ?

Maybe my bad on the cramping.

Turf monster. When I coached at Pikeville, many teams came in August through October (even AFTER the 'heat-related cramping' months) and we'd see opponents' calves sieze up with these golf-ball sized cramps. Our players would rarely ever cramp up...EXCEPT at the beginning of the summer practice. I used to think it was because we hadn't gotten them in good enough shape. But now in hindsight (and after 2 different years of taking VERY well-conditioned teams into that stadium and having cramp issues), I strongly believe that teams who practice on that 'spongy-feeling' surface on a daily basis have calves that get accustomed to it.

It seems to me -- from both this year's game and the one 3 years ago -- that the kids that experienced these calf cramps (both our side and theirs) are actually the kids who seem to play the HARDEST on a play-by-play basis.

I can buy that Coach.....I want to say kuddos for your decision making in this game. While my praise, is unnecessary, I want to reiterate that, imo, you absolutely made the right decisions regarding this game.

He is the second best QB and could help the team if he moved to FB or TE which is a better fit for him and the team.
