Franklin County (10-1) at Highlands (8-3)

Last time I checked, tradition doesn't throw the ball, tradition doesn't block, and the city doesn't catch passes. If it did, Mayfield, Highlands, and Trinity would win state titles every single year.

It must; because they just about do.

If you don't believe tradition has some value, you haven't been around a winning program. If you don't believe tradition doesn't drive the players, you havn't been around a winning program.

Winning breeds winning and the off spring is tradition.

Since the playoff system started in 1959...

In 45 years, Highlands has:

25 District Champs (56%)

23 Regional Champs (51%)

5 State Runner-up (11%)

16 State Champ (36%)

Between their State Runner-ups and their State Championships, the Birds have appeared in 47% of the title games. They average a State Championship game appearence every 2.1 years with a crown every 2.8 years.

Their longest streak without a title is 6 years...1990 thru 1995.

I see what you mean!

1961 1964 1968 1970 1975 1977 1981

1960 But tradition isn't throwing passes and making plays. 1982

2004 2000 1999 1998 1996 1992 1989

But tradition isn't throwing passes and making plays.

I'm not putting down Franklin County in any way. What Donnie Walker has done with that program is great. A few years ago this team was 0-10 if I'm not mistaken and now they are 10-1.

But what Franklin has not seen is Highlands crowd going when their is doubt about Highlands winning or call it a big game. Last year at EJ their wasn't a lot of doubt that Highlands would win so the crowd was good, but two years ago when EJ beat Covington Catholic as bad as Highlands did the week before their was some talk that Highlands could go down. That crowd was crazy that night. Franklin County has never played in anything like that atmosphere not at Lexington Catholic or anywhere. I think if this game was somewhere else the game would be decently close but at Highlands the Bluebirds will roll. This could be the hardest place in the state of Kentucky to win at in the playoffs. Their fans are second to none.

I'm not denying the numbers. Highlands has one of the elite programs in the state. But to say tradition throws the football on the screws to a receiver in the end zone or tradition makes the diving catch is plain ridiculous. If it was, Highlands would be state champions every single year!

Paris has a great football tradition. How come tradition isn't making the plays for them this year? or last year? Fort Knox has a great tradition. Why isn't tradition making the plays for them? Hopkinsville has a great football tradition and how many state championships has tradition won them in the last 30 years? Zero.

You can give credit to Highlands' talent, home field, the crowd, coaching -- they may win the game, but tradition will not factor in the W or the L.

It's a huge factor!

So how good is their tradition if Franklin goes there and pulls the upset? According to the posts, tradition should win this game and get them as far as the finals. Is it safe to say the Highlands tradition is overrated if they lose to Franklin Co. -- a team that was winless a few years ago and has very little football tradition?

What we are saying is, all else being equal, take the team with the tradition. You can't win being AS good...you have to be better!

Does Highlands have the most football tradition of any 3-a team in the state?

We don't think so over here in the East.....

But Highland's has been stellar in the past 30 years, so I guess I would say they would have be top dog since the KHSAA.

There are many tradition-rich football programs in Kentucky. We would like to think we have one of the finest traditions in 3A and the state in general.

That's just silly.
