Again-if you just look at W-L and the schedule they play it could be another 'middle of the road' year for Cov Cath. They finished 6-6 last year with a 6 point and 9 point loss to Lex Cath and LaSalle respectively. Both of those games were a play or two away from being a W and a 6-6 quickly becomes 8-4. If the 20 pt loss to Ryle in the first game, and 19 point to JC is getting their hat handed to them, then the 21 point win over Woodford wouldn't be a struggle. My point being they were competitive in all their games last year except for Highlands and Lou St X. Last years Seniors had 3 Head Coaches in their 4 years at Cov Cath, with stability and other things being done with the program, last year was a succes (regardless of W-L) and this year will build on that. The W's will follow.

 

Last year was a good year. I would also add to what you said that they dismantled Beechwood by 30 points, handled NCC by a few touchdowns, and beat rival Dixie. They took a HUGE step last year and each year are only going to get better.

If Covington Catholic is moving in the right direction then Kangaroo's comment shouldn't mean squat.

 

If you look at Mr. Roo's nine posts, he is a very negative fellow. His negativity seems to be wide spread. So, Mr. B (etc), I would say you are correct.

Let me add to this. CovCath was only stopped by failing to score before using all of their 10 plays and not by the Cooper "D" in their first 10 and done.

 

CovCath also instead of using their PK on a 4 and goal from about the 10 (in a regular game CovCath with their outstanding PK Talkers CovCath would have gone for the FG) but chose instead to give their young QB some experience, he threw the ball and the young QB was intercepted at the goal line.

 

From what I was told, CovCath failed to use at least two of their better RB's but instead chose to give their three young QB some game experience. IMO smart move.

 

BTW Cooper impressed me with Bradley running the ball, but if that young man gets hurt, Cooper is in a world of hurt this season.

 

Good luck to Cooper and thanks for allowing CovCath to play at your complex. If you haven't been to Cooper to see their sports fields yet, you really need to go out and visit them. From the Baseball Diamonds to the Football field, to the gym they have or will soon have (if taken care of) the nicest sports complex in NKY.

Bir started at QB and looked very good !

 

I have had him and his brothers on the field. They have such high football IQ along with great athletic ability. That is the recipe for a winner.

I have no problem with people offering criticism where criticism is due, and if you want to do so by asking "tough questions", feel free, I suppose. However, let's keep in mind that the pre-season and scrimmage games are intended as learning/training experiences to get players ready for real gametime. There is a lot to be said, then, for these teenagers being a little nervous in their first experience against another team, and that they may also need a little time to 'shake out the cobwebs' a bit. There is also still a good deal of experimentation that takes place in the coaching techniques, player combinations, and even positioning. Furthermore, you might also find that, for better or worse, Cov Cath has a M.O. of improving as the season progresses. I'd kindly suggest taking elements like these into consideration when asking your "tough questions".

 

I might add that your "Will 2010 be Brossart's fault too?" question seems a little more along the lines of a cheap shot than a "tough question". If you'll take the time to look over last year's posts regarding Cov Cath's football team, I think you'll find two things that could potentially make you reconsider that question: 1) Most of the Cov Cath supporters here on BGP were soliciting everyone on here to abandon the majority of discussions regarding Coach Brossart - it's a very dead horse - and 2) most of the Cov Cath supporters here on BGP spoke highly of the progress made in 2010 by the Colonels. Your "tough question" implies that the 2009 season was a disappointment and we attempted to lay blame for it on the previous coaching staff, and that simply isn't the case.

Its unbecoming for any poster to bring up a past coach in a negative fashion. For whatever reasons, it didn't work out and it wasn't all laid at the feet of Dave. Talent played into it as well. Hopefully, like all of us in our jobs, Dave takes the good from his experience and eliminates what he considers to be mistakes on his part to his next gig. I'm sure Dixie is happy with him.

 

Secondly, Dave has a stepson who is a key cog for the Colonels. He doesn't need to hear/read this crap about his stepdad. I've met the young man and he's a good, fun kid. Lets let him enjoy the experience without him having to hear about his stepdad from people with an axe to grind.
