With the midterm primaries in the news, the talk of possible 2012 Presidential Republican nominees has increased. As of today who would you likely vote for as the Republican nominee for President in 2012?

However, he could be another natural born Citizen question.

I voted other, because I didn't see an option for "I'm not registered Republican or Democrat and I wanted to vote anyway."

 

In all seriousness, I could most likely support either Jindal or Romney from the list above. I think Petreaus is an intriguing inclusion on the list.

I voted Gingrich, but Romney would probably be my second choice. The problem in my mind is that Newt has a lot of baggage, both in and out of politics and Romney's religious beliefs. I personally don't have an issue with Romney being a Mormon, but I'm afraid a lot of Republicans do. I included Petraeus because it seems there is always talk of a retired general running on the Republican ticket and he is the most likely IMO. I might have voted for Powell a few years ago had he ran. I might vote for Palin as President of the NRA, but not the USA.

I voted for Huckabee, though I don't think he has much of a chance.

 

I don't like Romney or Giuliani and will never vote for either. I don't see either of them getting the nomination, but if Romney somehow can do that, he would be the most electable candidate of the GOP. Jindal is interesting, though I haven't studied up on where he stands on the issues. And along with RM, I agree that the inclusion of Petreaus in this list is interesting and I've never really considered him. Newt will likely run, but I don't see him with a snowball's chance. Palin won't run, and she doesn't stand a snowball's chance either.

 

A couple of other prime contenders that aren't listed would be Jeb Bush & Tim Pawlenty.

 

Funny this poll was posted here, because I was thinking this same thing--Who will the Repubs nominate in 2012? I was wondering, because I don't see a leader among the GOP right now. Most all of them are simply running against Democrats, rather than running for or on something. It's almost as if they've taken the "vote for me because I'm not a liberal" stance.

 

Regardless of who the GOP puts up, I'd put my money (not my vote) on Barry O getting a second term.

Several months ago, I watched him & Jon Stewart debate one night on Stewart's show. The two come from opposite ends of the political spectrum, but they had a very civil & informing discussion. I was very impressed with both.

I voted Romney, because he's easily the most electible and because based on the current conditions of the country, specifically the economy he would be the most qualified for the job. I do however, find it virtually impossible for him to win the nomination due to his religion and the large judgmental intolerant Christian voting bloc of the Republican party.

I would probably agree with that sentiment. However Jeb's last name, coupled with the events of the 2000 Florida election would probably cost him too much in the public eye. While I don't think there was anything wrong with any of Jeb Bush's actions in those months, the whole eye test fails to the uninformed electorate. It would be an albatross too great to overcome.
