True. However, when you look at the blurb on St. Xavier, it says in graphics on the right in the title "#1 KY" which I took to mean that they are the number one team in the state. I would find it hard to believe they would have the #1 team in KY at 77 and some lesser team higher.

I honestly expect HHS to come out on top in this one. They will be returning more experienced players and we will be starting more young players than usual. On top of that we have a new DC, so I would like to see us keep things respectable. We will probably be starting slower than usual this year.

PepRock01, I believe Trinity's concept of "very down" is quite a bit different than most other Kentucky prep football programs' idea of being down.

 

Plus, it's a scrimmage... who knows what will happen. Highlands probably has the same chance of getting beaten handily by Trinity as Trinity has of getting beaten handily by Highlands.

 

Also, I recall that Highlands scrimmaged Male in 2008 and Highlands' star player, Josh Conner, broke his leg in the scrimmage. From what I heard, Highlands was playing very well before the injury to Conner and then became frazzled afterwards, resulting in a 20-18 Highlands loss. I bring this up for two reasons: (1) the most important thing in a preseason scrimmage is for both teams to emerge from the scrimmage without any serious injuries, and (2) unpredictable things happen in football, and it's very hard to predict how one good team (THS) will fare against another good team (HHS), when neither squad has actually played a down of "real" football yet.

That's what I'm thinking, I would expect them to be at the VERRRRRY least a top 50 team, traditionally teams that finish the season high continue to start the season off pretty high the follow season in national rankings. Sure there are some exceptions, but for power house teams those exceptions are often negated, and anyone that says Highlands isn't a powerhouse or nationally recognized is naive or ignorant of high school football on a national scale.

I understand what you are saying, but keep in mind that at this time last year (the preseason), Rivals only had Highlands ranked 76th nationally, despite the fact that Highlands finished 2008 with a record of 14-1 and was state champion, and was returning a ton of talent and experience for the 2009 season.

 

Perhaps the Rivals people noticed that Highlands is a relatively small school (in comparison to many of the major national football powers) that lost a lot of starters from the 2009 squad, including the only HHS player (Austin Collinsworth) who garnered any kind of national attention, and concluded the Bluebirds will be down a bit from last year?

 

I suspect CardinalsFan is correct and Louisville St. X will be the only KY team listed in this ranking. Hey, at least KY got one team listed... that's probably one more than is ranked in most years.

Agreed. Everybody needs to sit back and enjoy the ride. It starts with a "scrimmage" against Trintiy. The prize is at the end of the year.

Why? They lost a absolute ton of talent. Yes they have 3/4 of a ton coming back. HA! Maybe some people need to see them prove themselves again. That happens every once in awhile. If I was a betting man, HHS wins #20 this year. Undefeated, I don't know. I think they can for sure. National ranking? Sure, would love to see it. Why wouldn't anybody love to see a local team ranked. Wait, I know the answer to that question. Besides, HHS might not be #1 in NKY in some persons eyes.:lol:

Given that there aren't any big, big match-ups for Highlands this season (games against teams like Trinity, Louisville St. X, Colerain, Elder or Cincinnati St. X), I think it may be hard for Highlands to move up high on the national rankings lists UNLESS they begin the season nationally ranked. It appears HHS will not start the 2010 season nationally ranked by MaxPreps or Rivals. However, someone here on BGP mentioned he heard Highlands was informed by USA Today they would start out the year ranked on the Super 25. If they do, then I would have to say Highlands has a fairly good chance of finishing the season nationally ranked for the ninth year in the program's history, as an undefeated season is a possibility for HHS if they maintain their strong focus and work ethic (and are not bitten by the injury bug).

No sand here. Just ask rockmom I tend to err on the side of caution until I am proven wrong with our teams. In fact I remember saying to her after our first game of the season last year that this squad would not take their 5th title in a row. Of course rockmom and the little lady gave me all sorts of tartarus for that one, but I was right. We still haven't settled on a QB to the best of my knowledge. As far as I know the front runner is a sophomore who transferred up here from Florida so I am being quite hesitant in anointing this squad as world beaters especially considering our performance in the title game last year.
