July 21, 201016 yr A few buddies and I ate at the Granville Inn Tavern tonight. The food was okay and the service wasn't so great, but I still left a $3 dollar tip on about a $12 dinnner. My total came out to be right at $15 dollars after tip and all. Later on in the night my buddy called me and said he just happened to be checking his online statement and noticed that he was charged an extra couple of bucks. So then I decided to check mine as well and came to find out my card was charged $17.50:irked:. That got me asking around to a few buddies I know who frequent the place and they say that this happens to them quite often there as well. The bar is a mild hot spot on weekends, being just blocks away from the University of Louisville. It's got me a little worried that they may be scaming people into giving their employees extra tips by writing in different totals. I'm not really sure what to do about it though. All I can say for now is, If you're planning on heading there one night, BEWARE!
July 21, 201016 yr Many places add a gratuity for parties of 6 or more. Are you sure it wasn't something like that? If not, something obviously doesn't add up.

July 21, 201016 yr You need to take your copy of the receipt to the place and report it to the manager immediately. They should have the copy that the server used to enter the tip amount and the manager can see the difference. This is unfortunately a common method for servers to increase their income. How many people don't check, nor remember what the total was when checking their bank statements. Heck, I am assuming that the change was made by the Server, but it could quite possibly be the mgr who made the change after the server, so he could take a cut. Either way, they should retain the credit card receipts long enough for you to compare. Even if you do not have your copy still, I would talk to the manager as he may be aware that he is having an issue with someone and he needs some ammo to take action.

July 21, 201016 yr A lot of places will have a fee that is added when you pay with a credit card or bank card. Once the monies have been properly transferred the fee normally goes away.

July 21, 201016 yr One of the many reasons I always carry cash. Having a couple hundred on you at all times is the way to go. A guy I know always has a load of money in his wallet, and when I asked him if he was scared someone would take it from him he said "I'd like to see them try". That's how I feel too :lol:.
July 21, 201016 yr I personally can't stand the guy that owns the place and really wouldn't be shocked if this were occurring there on a regular basis, especially since their main clientele are college students who most likely don't monitor the exact amounts they spend on a daily basis.
