The added gratuity for large parties should already be reflected on the bill when they bring it to the table, not after thrillville signed off. He already said his total was $12. He got ripped off.

I was thinking that, if they did have a party of eight or more, the gratuity would be automatic. A busy waiter, seeing the $15 written on there may have assumed that was the actual bill amount and tacked on the automatic gratuity. He may have paid more than necessary, but whether he got "ripped off," I think, is still questionable.

His first post said his bill was $12.00, I am assuming that is the bill the waiter brought to him. Again, if there had been an automatic gratuity added that would have been added to the $12 so the bill handed to him wouldn't have been for a total of $12, regardless of the number in the party. Maybe I am missing something?

By pocketing what the server didn't take in tips at the end of the night. Anyways, the extra "fee" is still on there and it's no longer listed as a pending transaction in my account. I was charged $17.50.

One of the many reasons I always carry cash. Having a couple hundred on you at all times is the way to go.

At the end of the night, the server takes the cash that he was given & his/her tips from credit cards. He then "cashes out" with the manager and the server takes cash home.

 

Even if the manager did get into the system & increase the tip, I don't think it would net the manager any money.

Just to clarify, added gratuities are still optional regardless of what is posted. You can not be required to tip in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Look dood, I'm not saying it was the manger. I'm saying that my bill was wrong and so was my friends. Somebody there messed up slash pocketed a few bucks. AND it's not the first time that this has happened at the place. Is it outside of the realm of possibilities that a manager slash server working at a shabby little tavern would be less honest than the people you work slash worked with at Smokey Bones or wherever? Probably not.

If the Granville has been remodeled and is now considered uppity, I can't even imagine what it looked like before...

I haven't had this happen to me but if you go to the Hooters in Richmond BEWARE...a waitress I know there told me that if the waitresses don't like how much someone has tipped them and it was on a credit card, they'll enter a different amount for the tip...the one occasion I was told about was when someone left a $1 tip but whoever the waitress was that served them then wrote in $4 because it was easier to increase to that amount due to the one and four not being curvy numbers.

 

That is why I always put the dollar sign as close to the amount I tip as possible.
